Good evening Sierra Madre Families, this is Mrs. Lewis, your principal. Thank you to Dawn Denison, Colleen Bischoff, Annie Oelschlager and Jonathan Hennessey, and everyone who helped put together an amazing auction! With all of your bidding, we were able to raise $52K for SME!
Here are the announcements for this week:
Monday, April 25th we will have our BRAVO morning assembly starting at 7:50am and then my principal for the day, Grayton will help me announce the 3-5 Spotlight Awards for April. If you got an email stating that your child is receiving an award, please line-up, with your mask, at the Hermosa Field gate and we will let you in at 7:45am.
Wednesday, April 27th we will have our virtual SSC meeting at 4pm. Please click on this link to join.
Thursday, April 28th we will have an in-person tour for prospective parents and any current parents that have not yet had a chance to tour the school. Please sign up here and make sure to have your mask upon arrival.
Friday, April 29th is playday with the theme Super Heros! We will have a jump rope for heart activity during playday for students, up on the field.

SEEDs
SEED is excited to share recordings from their SEED family Summit. Check out Dr. Guadalupe Diaz-Lara’s informative presentation on Supporting Children’s Bilingualism and Home Language Development. Links to her presentation can be found in the SMORE.
The SEED Spring Social is coming Sunday, May 15th at Memorial Park! SEED needs your help in planning and executing this fun event for families! Join SEED for their next Spring Social planning meeting Monday, April 25th after school dismissal at Memorial Park!

Parent Volunteers on Campus- PLEASE READ
Please click through the below volunteer orientation slide deck and follow all of the links to the paperwork needed to be eligible for volunteering.
Teachers will be sending out a communication with the days and times parent volunteers are needed in their classroom, if any, for those of you who meet the requirements and are approved. Not all parents will be able to volunteer, even if eligible.
All parent volunteers are subject to screening by the principal.
COVID Screening and Testing Information
Please STAY HOME if you have ANY symtoms.
Screening Questions Daily before coming to school
- Do I have a fever?
- Do I have a cough?
- Am I experiencing shortness of breath or difficulty breathing?
- Am I experiencing any other symptoms?
- Have I been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 10 days?
- In the last 10 days, have I been directed to quarantine, isolate or take a COVID-19 test?
How and Where PUSD Students and Employees Can Get Tested
PUSD offers COVID-19 PCR oral or nasal swab tests on campuses and at the District’s Primary Clinic, 8 a.m. - 3:30 pm. By appointment, please call (626) 396-3600, ext 88180
SME is no longer offering weekly testing. Please contact the nurse if you would like an additional home test kit.
SME drop-off and pick-up reminders
Kinder Parents
Please do not block traffic during pick up and drop off, while waiting to turn on Hermosa Ave. Pull over to the side, and do not arrive prior more than 10 minutes to dismissal in order to keep neighbor traffic open. Traffic should be coming from Michillinda and eastbound on Highland. Please do not create traffic on north/south streets between Sierra Madre Blvd and Highland Ave.

PUSD Science Fest
The Pasadena Unified School District Science Fest is taking place on Saturday April 23rd at the Eliot Campus at 2148 North Lake Avenue in Altadena. All PUSD students and their families are invited. The event runs from 12 noon to 4pm. Groups in attendance represent engineering, space and astronomy, the environment, health and medicine, emergency services, robotics, and educational and career pathways toward STEAM careers. The event is outdoors, face masks are required at all times. Entry is from Boston Street.

American Heart Association Challenge
Dear Families –
We are halfway through Kids Heart Challenge, and I am so proud of our students for being active and kind! So far, our school has raised $4,650 in lifesaving donations to help special hearts! WOW!!! Great job! You know what else will save lives? Learning Hands-Only CPR and the warning signs of a stroke! You can learn them by completing FINN’S MISSION! Vaccination Clinics for PUSD
We strongly encourage parents/guardians to get their children vaccinated as soon as possible. The State of California has announced that the COVID-19 vaccine will be a required vaccination (with options for personal exemptions) once it receives full FDA approval. We know that vaccinations are a key component to preventing the spread of COVID-19.
