SHINE
Leaders Lighting the Way - January/February 2015
Kelly Starling Lyons Visits Anderson Creek Primary
Mrs. Lyons feels grateful, special, and honored when people read her books. When she was a kid, she liked to play the games Monopoly and Dark Tower. She likes songs from Katie Perry, Beyonce, and Lady Gaga. She likes to watch ballet and she likes to dance. She says Tea Cakes for Tosh is her favorite of all of her books. Her real grandma forgot how to make tea cakes, just like Honey in the story.
We told Mrs. Lyons about the seven habits and we asked her which habit is the hardest for her. She said that Sharpen the Saw is tough. It's tough because she can't go outside and get exercise when she is focusing on working on a book. She says, "a story is like a circle." She has to juggle the jobs when writing and story and begin with the end in mind.
Mrs. Lyons lives in Raleigh. She likes spicy foods like Thai and Jamaican. She loves making books about her family history. We thought Mrs. Lyons was pretty, sweet, and kind. We think that it's cool that she makes books for kids!
