Sandra’s seen a leprechaun

Eddie touched a troll,

Laurie danced with witches once,

Charlie found some goblins' gold.

Donald heard a mermaid sing,

Susy spied an elf,

But all the magic I have known

I've had to make myself.

-Shel Silverstein

Rhyme: elf and myself, troll and gold. Idiom: Sandra’s seen a leprechaun, Laurie danced with witches once, Donald heard a mermaid sing. Alliteration: Sandra’s seen a leprechaun, Susy spied an elf.

I think this poem means all of the author’s friends said they have seen mythical things, but the author keeps it all in his imagination.

I think the author was using his imagination while writing this poem, or the author’s friends might have said lies.
