Safe and Ready Schools Presentations (Updated Covid-19 Protocols)

You can reference the slide deck here which includes new guidance on quarantines and close contact. Also please take the time to read the AISD Family Newsletter which is generally released on Thursday afternoons. I am informed of new protocols in the same manner you are often times.

The two new items are reflected in the graphics below - the focus is on a new definition of close contact and new quarantine periods. Both of these shifts are in line with new CDC guidance.

What To Do If Your Child Is Not Feeling Well

What Do If Your Child Is Not Feeling Well

If your child is ill with symptoms consistent (cough, sore throat, stomach issues, headaches, fatigue, congestion, etc ...) with Covid-19 contact Mr. Crissey and your child's teacher and then the following protocols must be followed:

Students May Return After

10 days have passed since symptoms started, and improvement in overall symptoms, and 24 hours have passed without fever and use of fever-reducing medication.

OR

Provide doctor’s note to campus health room staff stating that symptoms are not COVID-19-related and student can return to school.

OR

Provide a negative COVID-19 test. This MUST be a PCR test not a rapid test.

As an FYI the same holds true for staff members.

Check Outs After 230pm

We need all checkouts to occur before 230pm please. Things become a little hectic after 230pm. This is a relatively common ask across schools. Make sure you bring your license when you check your child out. Thank you!

Counselor's Corner (ACTION REQUESTED)

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself, my name is Sarah Jane Devins and I joined the Bear Creek family as the Elementary School Counselor at the end of August. I am delighted to be here and be a part of such an amazing school and community! I have spent the past week meeting most/if not all of the students here and they truly are incredible kids.

My office is always open to the students as a warm and friendly place. It is also a safe haven – a place where they can get help if they feel confused or worried, etc.

Bear Creek is a wonderful school, but that doesn’t mean that our students won’t face challenges while they are here. I would like your children to know that they have an ally, there is always an adult at the school who will be on their side.

As a School Counselor, my primary responsibility is to promote the academic, personal, and social/emotional development of all students.

I am starting classroom counseling lessons this week and group counseling lessons to follow in two weeks.

In an effort to better understand the needs of your children and your family please take the time to complete this quick needs assessment.

There will be a consent form for groups after the survey is completed. Thank you for your time!

National Hispanic Heritage Month - Starts September 15

National Hispanic Heritage Month is September 15 through October 15.

While it is important for us to respect and uplift the identities of all of students year-round, we also appreciate heritage months that offer a special opportunity to celebrate—and center—marginalized identities. We are excited to honor this special heritage month with informative videos, discussions, and read alouds with your child!

Enrichment Fees Update

Thus far we have received 382 enrichment fees which is a 73% return rate. If you can please see below and try to render payment.

Thank you to the families that have done so already!!

Enrichment Fees (ACTION REQUESTED)

As we begin to start our second year in existence we are busy planning enrichment activities and naturally budgeting becomes a focus. The Austin Independent School District allocates approximately $60 per projected student which comprises our annual district budget. This budget funds operational and instructional basics such as copiers, instructional material, and custodial supplies.

Even with this assistance we still request your individual support in funding enrichment activities for your children. Collecting enrichment fees is a regular part of a school year cycle, however based on the pandemic and the endless pivots, twists, and turns I felt strongly about not asking for funds during our first year.

Enrichment fees are student centered. By policy we can only use the enrichment fee for student materials and activities. Should there be any money left over in the grade level account at the end of the year, it will be advanced with the students to the next year’s grade level.

Please note that $1 of each enrichment fee goes to the Bear Creek Elementary Physical Education Department.

Class t-shirts will also be provided using portions of this fee.

If you are unable to pay this fee, the administration and the PTA have set aside some scholarship funds.

Please submit payment no later than September 20, 2021. Payment may be made online only.

PreK, Kindergarten, First Grade, And Second Grade Enrichment Fee = $30

Third Grade, Fourth Grade, And Fifth Grade Enrichment Fee = $80

The additional $50 for grades 3-5 is allowing us to have Hello World come in a provide one hour of coding language instruction per week starting in October. We are VERY EXCITED to partner with them and we are VERY PROUD to be the first elementary school in the district to have coding as their second language for every child in the intermediate grade levels.

Hello World has an established and respected presence in our community and we are so fortunate to directly partner with them during the school day. The partnership was vetted through our campus advisory council during our May meeting.
