Principals with Heart Challenge
Did you know that HEART DISEASE is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States.
Did you know that 1 IN 4 deaths are related to heart disease?
Baron Davis, Richland Two Superintendent, has charged all principals in leading this important cause during the month of February.
Myself along with my co-captain and Pontiac’s PE teacher, Travis Palmer, have planned a month filled with fun fitness challenges for your child!
Please join our American Heart team by visiting THIS LINK and registering for our Pontiac school team! We already have nearly 30 members and are halfway to our goal to raise $1500!
Plan ahead! On February 5 we would like all of our staff and students to wear RED and donate $1 to our American Health Association Pontiac team! If your child brings in $1, he/she will write his name on a red heart for us to fill the windows around our school!
Each week during the month of February we would like to share a story with our school family about how the American Heart Association has impacted a member of Pontiac.
This week’s story comes from Allie Harris. Allie is the daughter of our very first principal at Pontiac, Dr. Richard Inabinet. He opened this special school of ours in 1990. How fitting that we are celebrating 30 years this year!
Do you have a child at Pontiac that had a congenital heart defect at birth? Would you like to share your child’s story? Please contact me at kbarber@richland2.org! We’d love to celebrate your child and his/her healthy heart!
Thank you, Team Pontiac, for supporting this very worthwhile cause!
A message from Dr. Barber about Valentines Day
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Valentines Day celebrations will look different in your child's class this year. Teachers will still celebrate Valentine's Day with students on Friday, February 12, however, to mitigate the spread of germs, the following precautions have been put in place:
-Students are NOT permitted to bring any paper Valentines/cards from home to distribute to class peers.
-The teacher may choose to allow students to bring in candy, however, candy must meet specific requirements. All candy MUST BE store bought, individually wrapped, and the bag must remain sealed. For example, if Johnny brings in boxes of Nerds, those boxes of Nerds MUST remain sealed in the bag that they were originally bought in. Contributions that do not meet this guideline will be sent back home with the student. Your child's teacher will let you know if candy will be permitted in his/her classroom celebration.
-The classroom teacher will pass out all Valentine candy to students.
Our teachers have some AMAZING plans in place to make Valentine's Day a fun and special day for your child while still keeping them safe. Your child's teacher will communicate any individual needs they may have for the day's activities. Thank you for helping us keep our school family safe! We look forward to celebrating with your child on February 12.
