BARBER BULLETIN
BACK TO SCHOOL - August edition
WELCOME BACK!
I am so excited to welcome you back to another school year at Pontiac! I am looking forward to a fantastic, productive school year ahead. What an awesome task we have to #inspire2lead. We will focus our efforts this year on using data to differentiate instructional needs to better meet students' needs. We will also begin implementing the 7 Habits using the Leader in Me framework.
This summer many of you participated in quality professional development. The Model Schools Conference was an excellent conference that highlighted schools across the country that are making incredible gains with their student populations. The 4th and 5th grade teams are eager to continue AVID this year! This is a great program that promotes college and career readiness. A few of our staff members attended the National ISTE conference. They have learned exciting technology strategies to capture students’ engagement! You will hear more about these professional development opportunities soon!
We have many exciting opportunities in the planning stages for our students this year and look forward to sharing more details on August 10.
If you aren’t already following us on Facebook and Twitter, please do so! We post often and encourage you to do so as well!

NEED SCHOOL REPS!
Are you interested in getting involved at PES this year?
We need you! Please consider joining one of the following:
PTO:
Our PTO meets once a month - the first Thursday at 6:00pm - and teacher input is valuable for this organization! We need teacher voices to help plan events and provide resources to teachers! Please consider being a part of this parent organization!
SIC:
Our School Improvement Council meets once a month at 7:45am. We discuss the school's strategic plan and make decisions about the vision and direction of the school.
Intervention Assistance Team:
Our IAT team holds monthly meetings to make instructional decisions for children not making progress in Tier II with supplemental interventions. This is a great way to share your ideas on effective academic, emotional, and behavioral strategies.
Wellness Committee:
Our Wellness Committee is made up of two parts - our Adopt a Doc Program and our Let's Move initiative! Lauren Fink and Jennifer Larck co-lead this committee. Are you interested in helping others with leading a healthy lifestyle? This is for you!
Golf Tournament:
Each year we plan a community Golf Tournament to raise funds to support PES students. In the past these funds have supported technology purchases including new NEWS ROOM equipment. We need help with silent auction plans as well as meals and community interest. Shauna Gartner is leading this so please let us know if you can help!
Maker Fair (scheduled for December)
Tim Swick and Marissa Young are planning a Maker Fair event! This will be part science fair - part technology expo - part circus fun! It will include activities for students to explore a variety of tools and topics by making things in both the physical and digital world. Even if you don't know much about what a Maker Fair is, don't let that stop you!
Thank you for finding your passion at PES!
While you work........Please keep in mind!
Here are some tips as you being to set up your classrooms for your students' arrival.
-Use carts to move heavy furniture/boxes through the building. Also, be careful not to drag furniture while moving it. Doing so will scratch up our newly waxed floors. Our custodians have worked hard over the summer to clean the floors. We want the school to be presentable when parents and students return.
-If you have things in your room that you don't want this year. Please label it as trash and notify T.Robinson. We ask that you do not put unwanted furniture outside classrooms.
-Any cardboard boxes that need to be recycled should be flattened. The boxes should be placed with your trashcan near the entrance of your classroom for pickup.
- If you are removing clutter, please request a large trash bag from our custodians. Bags can be placed near the entrance of your classroom for pick up.
-If you need additional furniture (chairs/desks/tables) send an email to T.Robinson.
Thank you for keeping our school hallways ready to welcome students back!
