Reading:
- Reading Assessment: Wednesday, January 16, 2019
- We will continue working on our fREADom reading.
- We will continue to work on summarizing using GIST and checking our comprehension by using Author’s Portrait.
- We will continue to practice our choral reading. This is a great way to help with fluency. We read a paragraph together out loud as a class at a pace that I set. The more we practice this, the faster we will get and the more fluent we will become. The kids really have fun doing this!
- Reading Vocabulary Words/Phrases: problem, reaction, reason, relationships, sentences, solve, story, succeed, suggest, suspense (We are in review. These should look familiar.)
- Reading Vocabulary Quiz: Thursday, January 17, 2019
- Your child should continue reading nightly for 20 minutes and then getting their reading log initialed.
Social Studies:
The students will continue researching key figures that helped write and participated in the Declaration of Independence. They will include facts such as, date of birth, key position the individual held, what influence they had on the independence, etc. They will be creating a Smore flyer, much like the one Thomas Paine wrote, persuading others to side with freedom. They will be presenting their Smore this Friday, January 18, 2019.
Black History Month Projects
Each student has chosen someone to research from the African American community, and they will present their poster board on or before Thursday, January 31st. Each student was handed a sheet, last week, with very detailed instructions about the project, and we are well under way in class with our research, typing, printing, and picture gathering! We've already had one student finish and present her project, and it's already up on our wall for everyone to enjoy. Great job, Paxtyn!
