Cedar Grove Friday Flash
March 13, 2020
Dear Cedar Grove Families,
As you have no doubt heard, all Maryland school systems will be closed from March 16 through March 27, 2020 due to the coronavirus. Learning activities have been provided online by the county for your child to access while school is closed. Families will receive a communication from the county regarding access to these materials, as well as a ConnectEd phone message on Monday, March 16, 2020 that includes your child’s MCPS Google.net login and password. During the closure our building services staff will be engaged in a deep cleaning and disinfecting process of the entire school to help ensure that our students and staff return to a healthy environment following the closure.
Parents/guardians can stay up-to-date and find information on the coronavirus and the school system’s efforts on the MCPS website at www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/coronavirus/.
We are pleased to once again partner with Klinger Insurance Group in the Read to Ride program. This program, described in a letter sent to parents this afternoon, is designed to promote a love of reading at home by providing a special prize: a bike, helmet, and lock. From March 16 to April 29, students may choose any book of interest to read. Each time a book has been read, you child should complete a Read to Ride Ticket (also sent home today), have a parent sign the ticket, and return them to his or her teacher when school resumes. These tickets will be placed in grade level containers for a chance to win, so the more your child reads, the more likely he or she will have a chance to win. We hope that you will encourage your child(ren)’s participation and maybe even read along! We look forward to awarding the prizes and recognizing all our readers at an assembly on Monday, May 4.
We would like to thank our families for donations during the Kids Heart Challenge. Thanks to your support, we were able to raise $2,760.22 for the American Heart Association to help in the fight and cure for heart disease.
We wish you and your family all our best wishes for good health, and we look forward to seeing your children when school reopens.

It’s back! During the month of March, we’re once again reading 16 books on the March Book Madness bracket to see which title is the best! We started on March 2 and will continue to vote at the end of every week to see which books need to face off for the final two! Students can access the read alouds/stories via Google Classroom and then vote for their favorites. Please have your students log on to their Google Chrome accounts, and access Google Classroom. The code to join the March Book Madness classroom is lyqplgz. As the month progresses, we will narrow down our favorites until we end up with the one winner! This year, we had guest readers – parents and MCPS staff – reading our selections to add to the read aloud experience so we’re very excited and hope your students enjoy it!
Please enjoy the March Media Monthly.
