A Note From The Principal

Dorr Families,

Hello Dorr Families,

It is hard to believe January is coming to an end and February is right around the corner. The school year is officially half over.

With February upon us our plans for Valentine's Day will begin. As mentioned before, Dorr has moved to a day of educational activities in place of “parties” with some snacks in recent years.

All WUS Elementaries will recognize Valentine’s Day on February 14th. Some volunteers in classrooms may be needed. Teachers will let families know how many volunteers are needed and what refreshments may be served. Please reach out to your student's teacher with inquiries about Valentine’s Day.

Save the Date: On February 28, 2023 from 6-7pm Dorr Elementary is hosting a family engagement night…..We Love Dorr Families!! The event will focus on literacy, math and CKH with mini presentations on a variety of topics, make and take sessions, book giveaways, the 10 cent book sale and more. Hope to see you there!!

Warm Regards,

Mrs. Seniura

American Heart Association Kids Heart Challenge News

We just kicked off our Kids Heart Challenge and are setting our goals very high this year! We need your help to get us there. All of our donations go to a great cause. We are helping kids with special hearts get the care they need to live a happy and healthy life. Our challenge ends on February 10, so there is plenty of time to sign up and get started. Please wait to turn in your money envelope until then, you never know if more people may want to donate throughout the event! Register at heart.org/KHC or scan the QR code on the front of the information packet that came home with your student. They can earn thank you gifts based on the levels they are donating. Additionally, if they reach $150, they will get to pie Mr. Weber in the face and if they reach $200, they will also get a Subway party in the gym for lunch after the event concludes.

Happening In The Halls

3rd Grade "Tossed" Science Lesson

Mrs. Brohl's 3rd grade class has been growing lettuce in their classroom garden since November. It was finally time to enjoy the fruits of their labor. And what better way than with a salad party! Thank you to all the parents who donated toppings and dressings for the salad party.

Getting To The Heart Of It

Mrs. Brohl's 3rd graders welcomed a special guest this week to share a special lesson. Evalyn Holwerda's father came to teach our students all about journaling. He taught our students about sharing their feelings and emotions through writing, and how journaling is a great strategy to navigate big feelings. The class was very excited to put this skill to use. Thank you Mr. Holwerda for sharing such a neat lesson!

Students Are Climbing The Walls In PE

1st graders have been climbing the walls in PE, rock walls, that is. Students were able to work on strength and endurance while climbing to new heights on the rock walls. Pictured below are some friends from Miss Browns class. They were just "hanging" around!
