Dear East Families,
I hope that you all have a wonderful fall break! Here are a few things I would like to mention before we return from fall break.
- Evacuation Drill- We will have our 1st evacuation and relocation drill on October 25th. Unfortunately, you can never be too prepared for an emergency. As part of our safety procedures, we practice school evacuations and relocations to ensure we are ready if an emergency were to ever occur. Officer Johnson, the fire department, as well as church and parent volunteers will all be on hand to assist with this drill. Around 9:15 am, we will leave East and walk to our relocation point at the Clayton Presbyterian Church. We will then enter the building to ensure we have adequate spacing to house East in an emergency. Prior to our drill, students will listen to the book I'm Not Scared, I'm Prepared! in order to better understand the purpose and procedures of the drill. Thank you for understanding and for your support in this important safety matter!
- Fundraiser- You should have received information from your child this week about our new school fundraiser! Please check out the info below and help us reach our goal!
- Quarterly Celebrations-Each quarter we will recognize students for academic achievement, growth, and attendance. Classroom teachers will select 2 students per quarter to honor for achievement, 2 students for growth, and any students with perfect attendance. Parents of these students will be invited by the classroom teacher to celebrate in these successes. We will have our first celebration today!
- Additional Quarterly Recognitions- Students who achieve A honor roll or A/B honor roll will be recognized with a special post on social media and News From the Nest. (Look for these the week we return from fall break!)
Your Lead Learner,
Katie Gordon
PS: Easton had such a fun weekend with Gurleen! He will take a rest this week for fall break and return to visiting students after the break!
Magic In Action
October = Kindness
Just a reminder that the month of OCTOBER = KINDNESS! We are defining kindness as listening, feeling, and understanding others’ needs and trying to help meet those needs. Our buddy bench is already seeing some action! A buddy bench is for students to use when they are at recess and feel like they need a buddy to play with or someone to cheer them up. When we see a peer sitting on the buddy bench, we use our character trait of kindness to meet their needs by inviting them to play with us. You can check out the video below for more info about the buddy bench program and the little girl who donated this buddy bench to our school!
