Beck Bulletin "Excellence For All"
Novemeber 3, 2017
Principal's Message
Dear Beck Families,
Over the course of the last six weeks as we have visited classrooms, our learning teams have been focusing on early literacy. It is a priority that all of our students experience a years growth in reading and leave reading on or above grade level. We have seen some great examples of students involved in student discourse during book clubs, students asking questions of each other, and the use of the depth and complexity framework to increase higher order thinking. We also have a focus on goal-setting which will help students be more self-aware, and allows them to self-monitor their own progress.
Please make time to discuss your child's goals with them and help provide time to practice them at home as well.
S. Conklin, Ed.D.
Principal
Important Inforimation
Safety
Please be cautious as you drive through the pick-up and drop-off lines. Student and staff safety are always our first priority.
Afternoon Pick-up
We have had a large increase in the number of students being checked out between 2:30-3:00. Please try to schedule appointments after school if possible to help with this situation. In addition, we have had many transportation changes come in after 2:00. This provides a very challenging situation for us as it is difficult to notify all teachers of those changes. Please let us know as early as possible if you need to check out your child early. Calling prior to 1:00 will be very helpful.
Lost and Found
We have many items that are in the lost and found. If your child has lost something, please have them check. All left items will be donated during the winter break.
Multi-Cultural Night - "United in Kindness"
Please join us on November 14th from 5:30-7:30 for our “United In Kindness” multicultural event hosted by the PTA. We are a growing school represented by students and families from all around the world. It will definitely be a fun evening of food, music, crafts, and cultural entertainment.
In addition, students will have an opportunity to taste different foods from other countries as an option on the school lunch menu.
Volunteers still needed! JA in a Day (Junior Achievement)
“Calling all JA Heroes! Volunteers needed to teach Junior Achievement programs at the Beck JA in a Day!! Junior Achievement is a nonprofit, youth development organization; we have in-class K-12 programs that focus on college/work force readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy. JA Programs are fun and easy to facilitate, no teaching experience is necessary! Five lessons are taught over the course of one school day. New volunteers attend a training session to prepare and all materials are provided!” This is a great tradition here at Beck, and our students look forward to our guests each year. A great Thanksgiving feast will be served to show our appreciation!
