The Woodlands High School
Highlander Happenings March 15 – March 27, 2021
ACADEMICS:
SCHEDULE FOR SAT SCHOOL DAY, Wednesday, March 24, 2021 (Red Day):
The Woodlands High School is excited to offer SAT School Day for our juniors on March 24, 2021. Due to the number of juniors testing that morning, we are adjusting our schedule for some of our students. Please see the appropriate notes about each grade level. If you have any questions, please contact your child's counselor. We wish our juniors the best on their upcoming SAT exam after Spring Break!
12th Grade/Seniors:
Some seniors are registered to take the SAT, TSIA, or the ASVAB on March 24. They will need to be on campus and in their assigned testing rooms by 7:20 am. The remaining seniors (in-person and virtual) will be remote for first and second periods. In-person students will arrive on campus for 3rd period that will begin at 11:32 and will follow the typical Advisory/Activity Bell Schedule. 4th period will begin at 1:10.
11th Grade/Juniors:
Juniors that registered to take the SAT need to be on campus and in their testing rooms by 7:20 am. The proctors will begin immediately with directions so students will be finished with their exam by 11:32. Once students are dismissed, in-person students will report to their 3rd period class while virtual students will be dismissed to return home for the remainder of the day.
Juniors that did not register to take the SAT will follow the same schedule as the seniors. All students (in-person and virtual) will be remote for first and second periods. In-person students will arrive on campus for 3rd period that will begin at 11:32 and will follow the typical Advisory/Activity Bell Schedule. 4th period will begin at 1:10.
10th Grade/Sophomores:
All students will follow their regular schedule (in-person and virtual). Since TWHS will be testing on the 3rd floor from rooms 312 through 345 for 1st and 2nd periods on that date, in-person students need to check with your teacher on Monday, March 22, to clarify if their room is being relocated for Wednesday, March 24.
9th Grade/Freshmen:
All in-person 9th grade students will report to the 9th grade campus on March 24, 2021. The senior campus will be on an alternate schedule this day for testing. Your teacher/coach will provide more information on March 22, 2021.

COLLEGE AND CAREER:
Student Internship Opportunity: The 2021 Online Student Internship Application is officially live and due April 2. All current juniors interested in applying can find our online application and all of the program details on the EfTA SIP Student Applicant Page. (https://www.efta-us.org/2021-student-internship-program---applicant-page.html) We will be holding three information sessions via Zoom on March 11 and 30 at 6:30 and March 23 at 3:30 so students can ask questions regarding the application and the program. As of right now the IRONMAN is scheduled for April 24. We are still requiring students to get 4 volunteer hours. They can either do a four hour shift at the IRONMAN if they feel comfortable being in person (all PPE supplies will be provided) or they can submit 4 hours that they have done on their own in 2021. IRONMAN volunteering must be a specific job as outlined on the EfTA SIP Application Page. The teacher recommendation form is also online. We are asking the students to submit the recommender's name and email address on their application so we can match them on the back end as well as emailing the link to a teacher after asking for a recommendation. Interested students, please see Mrs. Davies, the TWHS Campus rep for the EfTA SIP Program, in room 314 for any other questions.
CLINIC NOTES:
If you need a copy of your student’s vaccine record to submit to their college or university, you or your student may request it by calling or emailing the clinic at 936-709-1076 or aransley@conroeisd.net. Please be aware that we will not be available after May 27th. If your student has not had an additional dose of the MCV4 (meningitis) vaccine after their 16th birthday, it is required by most colleges and universities for them to be fully vaccinated. You may want to also discuss whether the additional Meningitis B vaccine is appropriate for your child.
If your student has been vaccinated against COVID, please send us a copy of that vaccination, or ask your student to stop by the clinic and we can make a copy, so we can add it to their record. At this time, individuals who have been fully vaccinated do not need to quarantine after an exposure, as long you are able to submit proof, and it has been longer than two weeks but less than three months since their final dose.
9TH GRADE CLINIC: Covid vaccines are not a requirement for CISD schools, however, we can now keep track of them on your students shot record at school. If your child gets a Covid vaccine, email the vaccine record to our nurse, Ms. Fletcher, and she will add it to the student's record. jffletcher@conroeisd.net.
ATHLETICS:
OFF CAMPUS PE: The window for enrollment opens on March 15th. If your student plans to participate in Off Campus PE, please enroll your student in the Off-Campus Physical Education on the CISD Athletics website. Completing the campus course selection does NOT enroll a student in Off Campus PE.

CLUB NEWS:
INTERACT: Happy spring break Highlanders! The end of the quarter has been extremely busy and rewarding for TWHS Interact. Last week, our club helped out Student Council with a food drive for the organization Kids Meals and donated tons of food to hungry children in our county! Then, this past weekend, we volunteered at our first large-scale event of the year: The Woodlands Marathon! Around 40 Interact members attended the event, serving as course marshals and cheering runners on throughout the day. And, to top it off, the marathon sponsors donated $1000 to our Ultimate Frisbee Fest fundraiser coming up on April 17th. Speaking of which, registration for the tournament just opened! You don't need to be in Interact to participate, you just make a team of friends and sign up! More information and the registration page can be found on our website: www.twhsinteract.org/ultimate. All proceeds raised will go to The Healing Scars of War through Rotary International, which funds camps for kids who have faced trauma dealing with the war in Ukraine to seek mental health guidance and regain their sense of youth. It would mean a lot to us if you came out to support the cause! Lastly, we hope to see you at our next meeting on Monday, March 29 at 7:00pm! If you have any questions about Interact club or the frisbee tournament, feel free to email us at interacttwhs@gmail.com

We plan to discuss various equipment options—pros and cons of different brands, prices, etc. Freshmen can take the activities shuttle after school to attend. You do NOT have to be scuba certified to attend our meetings, plus every meeting you attend gets your name in a drawing for some nice prizes at our May meeting! Snacks will be provided!

Farewell to Chief Ciufo! After 15 years of selfless service (helping stand up TX-20062 back in 2006!), CMSgt Dan Ciufo and his wife Daphne are retiring from The Woodlands High School and Conroe ISD to take on a JROTC opportunity across the Pacific Ocean in Okinawa! We held our formal going-away ceremony this past Tuesday evening in the high school cafeteria and it was a veritable “who’s who” of alumni, fellow faculty, and Booster Club members from the past many years. THANK YOU, CHIEF, and we wish you both all the best in your next adventure!
