Curriculum
Writing- The students continue to create entries in their Writer's Notebooks several times a week. We have been working on using and recognizing parts of speech, sentence structure, and punctuation.
Homework - It is expected that the students read at least 20 minutes five days a week. Additionally, they receive math homework Monday through Thursday. Please check and sign your child's homework notebook each day. The notebook is filled out each day as a tool to help the students develop organizational skills. I check each notebook after they have filled it out to make sure everything it is complete. Feel free to leave me a note or email me with any questions or messages you may have.
Weekly Homework - Third graders receive weekly homework assignment on Wednesdays, due the following Wednesday. These assignments are based on something that we are studying at school. Most weeks the students will have several options to choose from for their weekly homework. I encourage the students to have fun and challenge themselves. There will always be a project based component as an option. Please enjoy assisting your child with these projects.
Puppets Are Coming
Information will be sent home on Monday -- Your child will bring a puppet bag home on Mondasy. In the bag will be the design he/she has been working on (to be completed and returned by Wednesday), a letter explaining the costume design, and a pattern. When the costume is complete, please send it back to school in the bag. Many thanks!
Can you help sew puppet customs? If so, please let me know. If you are not able to sew a pattern for your child, I will find someone to do it for you.
This project will be part of our solar system and poetry units of study.
Art AdventureParents Needed!
Art Art is a program of the Minneapolis Institute of Art to bring art and culture out of the museum into the classroom. The museum provides themed groups of art with helpful teaching tools and props. At Capitol Hill, parent volunteers present the pieces of art to the classrooms and then the classes take a field trip to see the art live and in person.
If you are interested in participating as a Picture Person in the classroom, please contact Cassandra Lasley as soon as possible by filling out this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1YWKlEgXvsqCA4CHrVPOFj9i0vkeZd5hZr7wKRZoyIMI/viewform?usp=send_form or sending an email to: capitolhillartadventure@gmail.com
