Seawell Peek At the Week
September 11, 2022

At Seawell We Value All...We Are Committed to All...Believe in All...and Lead with the Heart!!!
September is full of opportunities for us to demonstrate our appreciation for one another and grow stronger together as a diverse learning community. In recognition of Bullying Prevention Month and National Hispanic Heritage Month, I will share information and resources throughout the month.
Hispanic and Latino are often used interchangeably though they actually mean two different things. Hispanic refers to people who speak Spanish or are descended from Spanish-speaking populations, while Latino refers to people who are from or descended from people from Latin America.Jun 30, 2019
September is also Attendance Awareness Month. The theme this year is “On Time, Every Day, All Day”. I would like to take this time to reiterate the importance of having your child at school on time and present all day, my reference to daily early checkouts. We are working on our end to have ample support during arrival to ensure that our car and/or bus riders get to their destinations as quickly as possible. Instruction begins promptly at 7:50 and most schedules begin with a critical morning gathering/meeting component that allows our students and staff to build community. Even before that time, some students have academic activities to review or challenge that build their skill level as well.
Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time.(StopBullying.com) We have our Code of Conduct which frames how we address bullying in our learning community, both in person and in the cyber world. As we progress through the month, I will highlight preventative actions that we take to prevent bullying from occurring along with district guidelines/supports as well. If your child has been bullied, please remember that you can reach out to any member of our school community so that we can address the situation.

Seawell Family Night on the Town: About once a month, Seawell plans a fundraising event at a local eatery or restaurant in the area. Seawell families are encouraged to visit there on a designated date, and the restaurant in turn donates a portion of sales from that day to the Seawell PTA! The first Seawell Family Night on the Town is scheduled for Thursday, September 22 at YoPop Frozen Yogurt (in the Timberlyne Shopping Center, 1129 Weaver Dairy Road, Suite V). Meet up with friends or bring your family for an after school snack or grab some dessert after dinner - all proceeds will support our school!

Spanish - we have one shared position (Northside) hired and are in the process of interviewing for our second Spanish teacher. Our shared teacher is slated to being in late September. In the meantime, we have one sub working an alternating schedule.
EC - We still have one EC teaching vacancy, but are fortunate that our long-term substitute from last year is able to support us until we can find a permanent teacher. Our program facilitator, Ms. Moon will support her with case managing.
LEAP- While we have amazing supports in place, we are continuing to search for two fourth grade and one fifth grade teacher for these positions.
We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we continue to work to fill these positions.
Note that BOY (beginning of year) assessments are continuing throughout the month of September.
Car Rider Update: Tags: Checking ID
Carpool: Carpool tags/numbers will be given out at the beginning of the year to new students. Returning students can request new tags if they have been lost or damaged.
Parents and guardians must present their tags to pick up their students. If they do not have a tag, they must show a valid driver’s license and sign them out in the office.
If there are extenuating circumstances regarding this expectation, please reach out to the principal or call the front office to receive guidance. Keeping your child(ren) safe is our priority.
