Lions Park Paw Prints
Letter from the Principal
Dear Lions Park Families,
I hope you have been enjoying this warm, February weather. It has been nice to have so many days of outdoor recess! Students have been particularly excited this week because the work has started on the new Lions Park playground! We are thankful that the existing playground will remain in place until the new one is built. It will be very exciting for students to have a new playground next school year!
Our PTO is having a busy month! Last night was our first Family Trivia Night attended by over one hundred students and family members. Next week they will host our Pawlooza Variety show. The performance for parents will be on Thursday, February 29th at 6:00 p.m. All students who participate in the performance that night will then have the opportunity to perform for their peers and staff members on Friday, March 1st during the school day. We are lucky to have such a dedicated group of parents planning amazing activities for our students!
February marks Black History Month, a time to honor and celebrate the rich legacy of Black Americans in our nation's history. Throughout this month, our classrooms have been learning about and celebrating these contributions. Check in with your child/ren to hear more! We encourage families to engage in these conversations outside the classroom to deepen understanding, connection, and compassion - the National Museum of African American History & Culture has a variety of learning and discussion prompts to dive into.
Report cards are being sent home with students today. Please spend some time with your child talking about areas of success and areas for potential future goal setting. When talking with your child, focus on things that are within their control. For instance, they could study a few minutes each night for a spelling test, make math fact practice part of their daily routine or spend some time reviewing writing by reading it aloud before turning it in.
February 28th is Wear Pink Day. Lions Park students and staff are encouraged to wear pink to stand up for kindness and against bullying.
We will be holding our Knots of Love event at Lions Park this year on Thursday, March 7th. This is a fleece blanket making event to make blankets for children at Lutheran General Hospital. Knots of Love was started by Lions Park student Lauren Graver when she was undergoing treatment for cancer. When Lauren passed away, her family, friends and Lions Park staff continued her mission to provide fleece blankets to hospitalized children to make them feel more comfortable during hospital stays. All families are welcome to come to Lions Park on March 7th to make a blanket together. Details are on the flyer below about what to bring. You don't need to stay the whole time, but feel free to stop by anytime during the event.
Warmly,
Katie Kelly

5 Essentials Survey
Please click on the link below to a letter regarding an important survey for our school. The results of this survey will be included as a portion of our official School Report Card and school ranking next fall. As a result, your participation and input is important, as we need at least 20% of our parent population to participate.
The survey will be open until March 29, but please take a few minutes to complete the survey as soon as possible. It takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.
