Harrington Happenings
August 29, 2021
Good Afternoon Harrington Families
I hope you all had a wonderful summer. I also hope you are relaxed, recharged and ready to start a new school year. I am so delighted that you are part of our amazing learning community. I welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to excellence in education, and I look forward to working with you and your children.
All signs point to another incredible and productive school year. Our skilled and devoted staff is already planning and preparing for your child(ren). Our enthusiastic office team has been assisting new families, ordering needed materials and updating student files. Our hard working and conscientious custodian has spent the entire summer thoroughly cleaning the facility. And, our much-appreciated HPTO is gearing up to welcome families, provide volunteer opportunities, and offer other exciting events and programs. We are indeed a joyous and caring community with the common goals of nurturing responsible, caring students and promoting high-level learning.
We thank Dr. Lang (Superintendent), for the purchasing of all of our students classroom supplies again this year. It was a huge undertaking, but very much worth it as Dr. Lang continuously seeks ways to support and provide resources to CPS Families.
The first day of school for Grade 1 - 4 students is Tuesday, August 31. Kindergarten orientation is on August 31, as indicated in your welcome letter you are assigned either an AM or PM time slot to meet your Kindergarten teacher.
WELCOME OUR NEW STAFF:
We would like to again welcome Ms. Tassinari (Grade 1), Ms. Malcolm (Grade 2), Mr. Buono (Music), Ms. Albert (School Counselor), Carolyn LeSaffre (Special Education), Amanda DeRosa ( Occupational Therapist) Jenna Autio and Christy McCusker (Paraprofessionals) to Harrington! All of these wonderful additions to our community bring excitement and a desire to be a part of the outstanding, supportive and dedicated community that Harrington represents. All of our new staff come to us with strong backgrounds and experiences to help support our students. Please join me in welcoming the newest members to our Harrington community!
CLASSROOM MAKE-UP:
A great deal of time, effort and thought has gone into the process of student placement for the 2021-2022 school year.
Careful consideration was given to input from staff and families as well as student learning styles. Classrooms have been balanced academically and socially. Our class lists are structured to provide equitable class sizes at each grade level. Moving students is difficult without causing imbalances and inequities.
Thank you so much for being positive with your child and helping him or her understand that it is impossible to place all students with a preferred best friend or teacher. ALL of our staff works hard to make school a positive experience for ALL students. Harrington is eagerly looking forward to enriching your child’s life. Thank you for understanding that it can take a few weeks for a child to acclimate to a new grade, peer group and teacher.
Thank you to all who are helping prepare for the new school year. Your commitment to insuring that Harrington remains a celebrated and successful school is awe-inspiring. I eagerly look forward to greeting students and families again. It remains an honor and privilege to serve as your principal. Together, I know we will make this school year one of growth and achievement for all children.
I want to thank you for your continued parent/guardian support and involvement in your child's education. We have a great year planned at Harrington Elementary and I look forward to working with you and your child!
Sincerely,
Rob Asselin

Current COVID-19 Requirements
COVID-19 Guidelines at this moment are that effective August 16, 2021, all students, staff, and visitors – regardless of vaccination status – must wear masks indoors while in any Chelmsford Public Schools facilities. Face masks are not required: (1) when outside; or (2) when an individual works alone or in a segregated space; and (3) Student Lunch. Students will have mask breaks at teacher discretion during the day weather permitting. We will strive to have the students outside as much as possible during the day. As a reminder, currently there is not a remote option for any missed time out of the classroom.
If your student is absent from school for COVID related situations ONLY, teachers will provide any missed work in a bin that will be located in the front of the building. This system will ONLY be used for COVID related situations, not for typical illnesses normally attributed to the school year.
This year it will be more important to keep your child home if they are not feeling well, please practice precaution and have your student stay home. If you are dismissing your student from school, please ring the bell and your student will be brought to you. We are limiting the amount of non-school personnel in the building this year.
Additional COVID information and/or changes is consistently being evaluated and will be shared with families from the district level.
