Counselor's Couch...
Our Lago Vista Middle School students and staff have had a wonderful beginning to the school year. With the start of the new year and a new semester, comes another opportunity for a fresh start and to continue the hard work the students have already put into their school year. It is important to get to bed early, eat a good breakfast, get to school on time or even a little early and be present and ready to work every day. If your student is struggling with any of their courses, please encourage them to visit with their teacher and attend tutorials regularly.

6th grade showcase!
News from Mrs. Reighley’s Viking Valor Class:
Congratulations to Nevaeh Smith, CJ Hood, Shelby Yeary and Whitney Vaughan! This fabulous group of Lago Vista Middle School 6th Graders from Mrs. Melody Reighley's Viking Valor Class won the first round of judging for the Take Care of Texas Video Contest. The students in Mrs. Reighley’s Viking Valor class created 30-second video spots on “how to take care of Texas” as one of their class projects. Then Mrs. Reighley submitted a couple of those videos to the Take Care of Texas Video Contest. Nevaeh Smith’s group found out this week that their video was one of six videos for 6th through 8th grade, selected from the entire state of Texas for the second round of judging in the contest. The voting started this week and runs until 4:00PM on Wednesday, January 25th. Winners will be announced on Wednesday, February 15th! Please vote every day, if you can!
The video to vote for is listed under, “Nevaeh, 6th grade” for middle school. You will also need to pick a random high school as well so that it takes the vote for our team.

Need a window decal for your car...
Hello Vikings! I have opened an Etsy store selling window decals to promote school spirit for our Lago Vista Vikings. Each decal has a detailed description along with the option to personalize it. I figured this would make things easier on everyone because if your kid is like mine the order form will never make it home.
All you have to do is go on to www.etsy.com then enter LV Flightline in the search engine. When you get to the store you pick out the decal or decals of your choice. I have set up the store for different types of payment including PayPal.
Because I am local the process will not take long and I will ship it to you free of charge. Please contact me if you have any questions or a special request.
Thank you for your support.
GO VIKINGS!

he 7th Grade Lady Vikings teams traveled south to take on the Comfort Deer this week.
The 7B team had a tough match up since Comfort had to scramble at the last minute to put a team together for us to play. They came with a mix of 3 7th graders and the rest 8th graders. The Lady Vikings didn't let that ruin their spirits, they played just as hard as ever. Kate Burke had 5 steals during the game, and Gabby Nolette brought down 2 rebounds. Delaney Reighley and Cadence Sansom played hard against the 8th graders guarding them, and even got off a few great shots at the goal. Kristin Conine used her speed to play aggressive and get a steal. Cheyenne LeBlanc scored the only 2 points of the game for the Lady Vikings on a rebound and put back. The final score was 18-2, but the Vikings did not hang their head and knew they fought valiantly against a mismatched group of 8th graders.
The 7A team had their toughest match up of the season against Comfort this week. They are a well polished team with a quick transition. The Lady Vikings rose to the challenge and played harder than we've ever seen them play. We stayed point for point with them until the 2nd quarter, when they pulled ahead. A few missed layups left the score at 14-8, we were trailing by 6. A few adjustments at halftime gave the Vikings new life and we came out swinging to take the lead again in the 3rd quarter, 15-14. The 4th quarter was a nail-biter. The Deer were the first to strike, going up quickly, 18-15. With 24 seconds left in the game, the score was 18-17. After a few missed shots by the Vikings, Avery Rague grabbed a rebound and put it back up, drawing a foul. She missed the first free throw, but made the second to tie up the score with 24 seconds left. We pressed Comfort and forced a turnover, our ball. After quite a few wild, missed shot attempts, the game was over 18-18.
We went in to a 3 minute OT. Once again, Comfort got on the board first, 20-18. Lots of turnovers and jump balls kept both teams on their toes. Avery got another offensive rebound to tie the game again, 20-20, with 6 seconds left on the clock. Comfort called a timeout, and we prepared for the press. Avery stole the ball on the inbounds throw and made a left handed layup to put the Lady Vikings up 22-20. The crowd went wild! With 4 seconds left on the clock, Comfort made a good attempt to tie the game again, but our defense left them unsuccessful. Lago Vista won their 5 district game, 22-20. The top scorers for the game were Emma Vincent and Avery Rague with 7 points each. Gina Chiappone, Sarah Long, and Emma each also recorded 3 steals a piece. Aggressiveness, determination and true team work led the ladies to this awesome win. This game forced our team to push to the next level of play, and there's no going back now. We are taking this win and all the momentum to the Marble Falls Invitational this weekend to play in the 'A' tournament.
The Lago Vista Lady Vikings 'A' Team will travel to Marble Falls this weekend, and then have home games for the rest of the season. Go Vikings!
