On Saturday, Hobart took 7 divers (3 boys, 4 girls) to Western High School near Kokomo to compete in their 1st 11-dive meet of the season. In diving, dual meets are only 6 dives, but once the post-season begins, everything involves making 11 dives ... so getting some experience early in the year should prove beneficial when February and March role around.
Oh ya ... and the Brickies WON!! The girls placed 1st overall with a team score of 678.35, which was nearly 70 points more than 2nd place Maconaquah! On the boys side, it was Hobart soaring to the title with a RIDICULOUS score of 772.05!! The next closest team for boys was Rochester with a measly 499.4 ... WOW!!
Individually, junior Alivia Ahner took 2nd (girls) and sophomore Ethan Ferba was 3rd (boys) as each scored a new PERSONAL BEST for 11 dives! Overall, the Brickies were AMAZING in completing 11 dives this early in the year!
CONGRATULATIONS!! THIS IS AWESOME!!

Girls Basketball
Against their toughest opponent of the season so far, the Lady Brickies CAME TO PLAY! It was back & forth early on as Hobart matched the Lady Mustangs basket for basket, stop for stop, and the score was knotted at 11 a piece after 8 minutes! In the 2nd quarter, unfortunately it was all Munster as the home team went on a 16-0 run to blow the game open before the Lady Brickies could find the bottom of the net again. At the half, the Lady Mustangs led 37-19.
The 3rd quarter was almost identical to the 1st as Hobart tried to claw back into it ... once again playing right with Munster, but still trailing 45-26 going into the 4th frame. As much as the Lady Brickies scrapped and fought to cut into the deficit, the 'Stangs had an answer every time and defeated Hobart 63-38.
The Lady Bricks were led by junior Lexi Williams with 12 points. Freshman Asia Donald added 10 and senior Grace Nestich tallied 7 in the loss.
Hobart is currently 5-3 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. The Lady Brickies are home twice this week with Illiana Christian on Tuesday and NCC foe KV on Friday.

America's Crossroads Bowl
The America's Crossroads Bowl featured Truman State University from the GLVC (Great Lakes Valley Conference) and Ohio Dominican University from the GMAC (Great Midwest Athletic Conference). Each team narrowly missed out on the NCAA Division II Playoffs, which earned them an invite to this one-of-a-kind experience! Each team arrived in town on Thursday night ... had a walk-through practice on Friday @ The Brickyard along with breakfast at the Hobart Community Center ... joined SCOH elementary students for some fun that afternoon ... attended the annual Hobart Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony and a banquet on Friday night ... enjoyed a Saturday breakfast at County Line Orchard ... and FINALLY got to play some football on Saturday afternoon!
It was a BEAUTIFUL day in DA REGION for some college football and those in attendance were treated to Jim Cornelison (that's right ... the guy who sings for the Chicago Blackhawks) getting things started with the National Anthem, two WW2 veterans serving as honorary captains, a pre-game helicopter fly-over and a halftime ceremony dedicated to celebrating first responders! Oh ya ... and there was ONE HECKUVA FOOTBALL GAME TOO!! In the end, it was the Truman State Bulldogs - ranked #23 in NCAA Div 2 - who came out victorious by a final score of 21-7! It was the school-record 10th win of the season for the Bulldogs from Missouri!
Many thanks to the City of Hobart, the SSCVA, the MAAC Foundation, and EVERYONE else who played a role in bringing this event to LIFE! It really was AWESOME!!

Junior
Heartbroken ...
Not a lot of people are known simply by one name, but Daniel Flores Jr. was and always will be.
Junior was a 3-year starter for the Brickies boys soccer team and earned Academic All-State & All-Northwest Crossroads Conference recognition. He was respected, admired and loved by his teammates and well thought of throughout the entire school and community.
He was raised the right way by a great family, which is what makes this tragic loss so much more difficult.
We talk a lot at HHS about how OUR BOYS WILL SHINE ... well, Junior certainly did during his time with us ... not just as an athlete, but even more as a person. Junior’s presence will never leave us and the challenge is on this community to ensure that his light will continue to SHINE in the hearts and lives of all who knew him.
God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, nor sun without rain, but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way.
Junior - may God bless you and keep you until we meet again.
