Weekly Recap
Hopefully this message finds you in good spirits. Last week, scholars engaged in various learning activities, and we celebrated homeroom classes that had perfect attendance. This week, scholars will have a chance to show mastery on the academic concepts that have been covered during the 1st Nine Weeks. Yes, we have come to the end of our first marking period, and with that, scholars in grade 1-5 will take Benchmark exams. Because of the length of the exams, your child may not eat lunch at his/her regular time (everyone will eat), so you are welcome to leave lunch in the grade level locker located in the Main Office, and regular lunch visitors will resume next week.
When coming up to the campus this month, you will notice an area set up where our House information is featured. Msaidizi (teal House of givers) has decided to "go pink". Throughout the month, they are collecting items that will be sorted and combined to make packets for patients who are undergoing treatment for breast cancer. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we salute Msaidizi for wanting to make a positive impact and bring joy to others.
Speaking of Houses, thanks a bunch to PTA for purchasing House flags for each House. Currently, Penseur (blue House of thinkers) is leading in House points, so when the United States flag and Texas flags go up, their flag will make its way up the flag pole to wave proudly. Scholars now have lanyards the color of their respective Houses, so when a faculty member sees a scholar meeting/exceeding expectations, points are earned. Whose flag will go up next? Only time will tell.
The district showcase has a new name and day of the week. The STEAM Extravaganza is now Experience CHISD. The district-wide showcase will be 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 10, at Longhorn Stadium. You won't want to miss the opportunity to apply early for new programs. More information is coming soon.

Student School Board Application
The application process for the 2018-19 Student School Board is now open. The Cedar Hill ISD Student School Board was created to provide scholars with a means to develop their skills in leadership, public speaking, civic involvement, and public policy advocacy. Students will be the voice for their peers as well as an invaluable resource for school board members and staff.
To participate in the Student School Board, students grade 6th-12th must complete the application packet. Students grade 3rd-5th must be recommended by a teacher, principal, or counselor via google form. Completed applications must be submitted to the student's campus counselor by 3:45 p.m. or Danyell Wells at the Cedar Hill Government Center, 285 Uptown Blvd., by 4 p.m., Friday, Oct. 12.
Students selected to participate in the Student School Board will be notified on Wednesday, Oct. 17.
Criteria:
- Must be in good academic/behavioral standing
- C average or better
- Commit to community service projects
- Two letters of recommendation
Expectations
Participants are required to attend a regular CHISD board meeting or workshop monthly on a rotating basis (i.e. June - regular meeting, July - workshop). This gives participants the opportunity to observe a formal meeting and the work that takes place beforehand. Participants will meet individually one Tuesday per month (dates TBA for the 2018-19 school year).
