Leopard Players Visit
Representatives of the American Musical & Dramatic Academy made a visit to VVHS on Thursday afternoon, and JUST WOW! Alexis discussed all that AMDA has to offer in the performing arts on both the LA and New York campuses including a few great college admissions and scholarship tips that were beneficial to students regardless of their future plans. Then Vahasty treated the students to a musical theatre dance lesson from the Broadway hit "The Prom".

Mighty Leopard Band
Leopard Band had a very special guest, Dr. Sarah Burke, Director of Bands at Blinn College. She visited the HS band members and gave a clinic to remember. We are thankful that she took time out of her busy schedule to drive down to us and work with our students. Blinn College is happy to provide music scholarships for both music majors and non music majors. If you have an questions about auditions, please reach out to Ms. Clakely who is an alumni of Blinn College.
Community in Schools- Leading Leopards
Leading Leopards had the opportunity to walk to the Elementary school to meet with their student last week. They received a motivational talk from Mr. Pena letting them know that their guidance to their student would impact them for a lifetime. We are so thankful to our CIS partners, Mrs. J Zuniga and Mr. J. Rodriguez for their efforts to make these connections for our students.
Mini Leopard Cheer Camp
Can you dig it?! HEY! That Leopard spirit!
The Leopard cheerleaders hosted over 85 students who learned cheers, stunts, dances, and tumbling moves. Leopard spirit filled the gym with chants, tradition, and Leopard pride.
A huge thank you to a few key players and so many others who worked hard behind the scenes to make today so successful:
- To our cheerleaders who showcased patience, perseverance, and commitment by showing up after a long night of cheering their football team on. You all won over the hearts of so many tiny Leopards and made us so proud.
- To our sponsors, Mrs. Jordan Pena and Ms. Carla Bujnoch who put on an organized, engaging, well prepared camp for so many students.
- To the parents and students who showed up today in support of our program. The future leopards were respectful, engaged, energetic, and full of Leopard spirit.
Tradition lives on thanks to events like this. Thank you for sharing your students with us. Feel free to share a shout out from today below.

WITI- Women in Touch Initiative
Students from Van Vleck High school were chosen to represent VVISD as new members of WITI or Women in Touch Initiative. WITI is a collective initiative to gather female perspectives and empower women to recognize their potential. Grace, Ava, and Tia were personally invited to a luncheon with Superintendent Dement, where they heard from STP CEO, Ms. Kym Harshaw.
Ava shared a little bit more about the experience:
"It was an experience to remember! There were so many powerful, successful ladies who had such bright spirits. A woman CEO at STP spoke to us while we ate. She explained her story of how she got to where she is now. She’s moved from state to state, following amazing job opportunities then landed into South Texas. She is 1 in 3 of women in the entire United States to work in the job position she is in. Her story showed me that the pathway of life is not a straight line. It has obstacles and the way to overcome these road blocks is to work hard. I am so thankful for the opportunity and hope to experience more."
Youth Leadership- Matagorda County
4 students were chosen to represent Van Vleck High School as members of Youth Leadership Matagorda County. Cadence, Tia, Tatum, and Jahrius attended their first event this past week where they toured the STP Joint Information Center and their Emergency Operations Facility. They observed an STP Emergency drill and then were treated to lunch while hearing from the Matagorda County Emergency Management Coordinator, Amanda Campos. They then toured the Matagorda County Courthouse for a tour of the building.
