Caldwell School District Update
From Superintendent Dr. N. Shalene French
January 14, 2022
Honoring Damian Arguello, Caldwell's first Gatorade Player of the Year
"I got to see my little brother who’s currently on the team, and my older brother, who was on the team two years ago. It’s really nice to see that everybody in the program really got to be a part of this journey with me," said Damian.
During his time in a Cougar uniform, Damian helped Caldwell High School win two State Championship Titles. He scored 108 career goals, which is a new state record, and had 14 assists.
Damian continues to demonstrate commitment, leadership, and perseverance.
Congratulations! Damian - We are so proud of you!
Everyday Leadership Program
Melissa Langan, a 5th grade teacher at Wilson and the Everyday Leadership Advisor, believes the program is a positive way for students to learn to lead by example.
"This program will help children learn what's right and what's wrong. It will help them be good members of our community, good public speakers, and how to just grow up and practice those skills in their everyday lives."
Capturing Caldwell
We have started a new weekly Caldwell Staff Spotlight featured on our social media channels. We will be recognizing some of our amazing staff from around the district.
This week's Capturing Caldwell Spotlight is Mrs. Haley Hawk. She teaches 8th grade ELA and 8th grade Advanced ELA for Syringa Middle School. Not only does Mrs. Hawk do a fantastic job with her students in the classroom, she also supplies them with academic opportunities outside of school. Recently Mrs. Hawk assisted in the development of Syringa’s first speech and debate team. With the help of Caldwell High School, she was able to prepare and coach students in their first competition.
Mrs. Hawk was also awarded Caldwell’s Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Teacher of the Year for 2021-2022. Mrs. Hawk’s students have proven to be very competitive in the nationwide essay competitions provided by the VFW. Three of her students placed first, second, and third in VFW - Patriot's Pen essay competition.
We are so lucky to have such great teachers in Caldwell. Thank you for your continued leadership, dedication, service, and compassion to those you serve!
Charles Butler - First Place in the VFW's Patriot's Pen Competition
Emma Barnet - Second place in the VFW's Patriot's Pen Competition
Kira Ferro - Third place in the VFW's Patriot's Pen Competition

Jefferson Middle Schools' 8th Grade Girls Basketball Team had a historic season. They placed second at the district tournament and ended the season with a 13-3 record. Coach McFetridge commended the girls on their great attitudes and grades.
