CHARLIE GORDON
Olivia Schawel
Charlie Before the Operation
Charlie was motivated t become smarter before the operation. The author wrote “I tried my hardest and I really wanted to learn” (Keyes 35). This shows that Charlie is motivated because he has a positive attitude for learning and improving his knowledge. Before the operation he was also unintelligent. I know this because the author said “I had a test today. I think I failed it” (Keyes 33). This shows that he is unintelligent because before even seeing his grade he automatically assumed he failed.

Charlie After the Operation
After the operation, he became very smart for a short period of time. He began to use words he would have never used before. I know this because the author wrote “I have included in my report all of my formulas as well as mathematical analysis in the appendix” (Keyes 57). It shows that Charlie’s vocabulary improved after the operation. Charlie was also more affectionate after the operation The author stated,“I’m in love with Miss Kinnian” (Keyes 48). This shows that he had some love and affection towards Miss Kinnian which was different for him because he had never felt that way about her before.

Charlie is Dynamic
Charlie is considered a dynamic character because he undergoes important changes during the story. He goes from dumb to smart to dumb again. He changes because he got an operation to make him be smart, and then it later wore off bringing him back to the original state. His actions teach the reader to keep trying and never give up on what you really want. http://blogs.isb.bj.edu.cn/18justinw/files/2014/09/Charlie-Gordon-Characterization.png
