Letter to Potential TAG Families

Dear Talented and Gifted Families and Students,

Finger Lake (FLE) TAG began four years ago as the home to the district-wide elementary school TAG program. TAG Teachers, Ms. Hardy and Mr. Boyden, serve between 40-55 students in multi-aged 3rd-5th grade self-contained classrooms.

Each spring, FLE hosts informational meeting(s) to showcase the program’s successes, share about our school, curriculum and materials in TAG, and answer questions. Families share testimonies of their experience(s) at FLE. Comments that continue to echo from parents are their child feels challenged, excited about school, motivated, happy, engaged, and content. Students feel connected because they are with peers with similar needs who share comparable learning styles.

The front office at FLE begins collecting applications in April each year. All students who have participated in the district's CogAT assessment are eligible to apply. If the number of applications exceeds the number of spots available, a lottery is conducted. The application, which also serves as the boundary exemption, can be found to the left under the welcome heading.

A great deal of research suggests that small school structures contribute to student achievement and a sense of well-being. This growing choice option for the Mat-Su School District is a springboard for innovation and one other district's in Alaska have already visited for ideas of how best to serve kids.

Juliana Hardy is your current point of contact at FLE for TAG related questions (Juliana.Hardy@matsuk12.us). You may also contact Principal Susan Steele directly (SusanR.Steele@matsuk12.us). The staff at FLE, Ms. Hardy, Mr. Bodyen, and Ms. Steele are 100% committed to working with you to ensure your child’s needs are strategically calculated with your input, that a well-built structure and program is established to serve your most treasured gifts, and that you have a positive experience with our team.

Should you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to call us at 907-864-2200. Thank you so much!
