Graduations In The School City of Hobart!

Brickie Class of 2022 Graduation!

What a beautiful night we had to celebrate our amazing seniors and all of their accomplishments. The bleachers were packed, the students looked great, and the night was flawless! From the student speeches to the celebrations of their completion as a Brickie, the memory of the night will not be forgotten. Our Brickies had several accomplishments among themselves. Students earned college credits and technical certifications, many earned associate degrees or became certified nursing assistants. Others are applying their credits to the military to protect our Country, while the rest are using the Hobart University experience to move forward in accomplishing their adult goals. In total through Hobart University, our seniors saved over $1.3 million in high education! We are very proud and excited for our Hobart Class of 2022 and cannot wait to see you start the next chapter of your lives! Congratulations and Way to #BeExcellentOnPurpose!

Brickie Class of 2034 Graduation!

There can never be a bad Kindergarten Graduation. The students are always amazing, proudly walking in with their caps and gowns, smiling and waiving at Mom and Dad who are tearfully smiling and waving at their not-so-little child. The night is always a joy! Once the students were seated many took a moment to speak, including Principal and Director of Early Education and Learning, Mrs. Gutierrez, and Superintendent, Dr. Buffington. The students then had their turn as they sang and performed a couple songs for their parents. Finally, they received their laminated diploma and danced at their seat before being dismissed for a cake celebration in the great hall! It is always a joyous night and an exciting moment to see our little Brickies move onto 1st grade! We are excited to see what you will do here at the School City of Hobart! #BrickieUp

Kayla and Isis Win State At Innovate WithIN!

What a journey! These two incoming sophomores started their high school career by hitting the ground running. They came together with mentor, Mr. Schultz, at the high school and created their company, Patchables. The concept is easy: they collect gently used or donated fabrics and use it in multiple ways to create dog toys! They are durable, creative, different sizes, and withstand some of the toughest tugging fights. From this concept they started with the basics: where to get the materials from, production, cost of materials and workers compensation, marketing, promotions, and everything else needed to compete in this elite competition and a world that is full of great innovations. These young women are dominating! After winning first place at our Region Division with Innovate WithIn, they moved on to the State competition. If you have never seen Innovate WithIn competitions, it is essentially like the television show 'Shark Tank' where they pitch their company idea to judges while meeting certain criteria. Their pitch was flawless, add that to a great company idea and you create STATE CHAMPS! They earned $25,000 to invest in their company as well as $10,000 in scholarships toward their future education!

They have worked tirelessly to form their company while maintaining their academics and other extra-curriculars. They have a great website where you can purchase their product and have a booth at the Hobart Summer Market every Thursday! These are just some of the amazing things they have done. We are so very proud of them and look forward to watching them and their company flourish! Read about them and get their product here or at the summer market!

State Bound Athletes!

What an incredible season for our athletes. These two in particular dominated on the field in track and took their determination and skills all the way to STATE in Bloomington, IN! First up is Gavin Miller-Lane who competed in Long Jump and impressed us all! He was incredible to watch throughout the season and finished his junior track and field career at State with a 13th place and a jump of 21' 7.25"! Keep going after it, Gavin!

Another impressive athlete is Cody Johnston who, like many others in his family, dominated in pole vault! Cody has been rocking the pole vault for years and this season showed his dedication to the sport. He has known that in order to get to the State level, daily preparation is needed. He loves every second of it and can clearly see it is paying off as he stepped up on the number one spot at State! He was the force to reckon with and everyone knew it, but when he conquered 16'8", the victory was his!

We look forward to watching both of these athletes again this year. Keep focusing on your goals and working toward them - you will continue to achieve big things!

Athletic Director, Mike Black, Received Dutch Kramer Award!

Our Hobart High School Athletic Director, Mike Black, was recently presented with the 'Dutch Kramer' award from the Lake County Athletic Officials Association. Bob 'Dutch' Kramer was a predominate figure in the athletic world, inspiring many coaches and officials and bettering athletics for many students. In memory of him, the Dutch Kramer Award is presented to a person outside of the Association who has made significant contributions and efforts to support the Lake County Athletic Officials Association. This award is nominated and selected by the Board of Directors. To make this achievement even better, our own - newly retired - educator, Deb Glass, presented the award to him!
