Weekly Bulletin April 27-May 1, 2015

The Bright Side

The 8th grade STAAR Reading results came in last Friday and 81% of the students passed, which is lower than the 87% of 2014. But when you look at the results of this same student cohort, these students made gains because only 74% of them had passed the 7th grade Reading STAAR. As well, their Commended performance increased by 5%. Here are other bright sides of the results:

49% of the students mentored passed

43% of the students on the data board passed

178 students made growth: 140 made 1 year of growth and 38 students made two years of growth.

Even though the percentage passing is not at or above last year, there still is a bright side.

The 81 students who did not pass started receiving academic support in Enrichment classes and are learning test taking strategies in Pride Academics. As a staff we need to support and encourage these 81 students everyday. If you mentor an 8th grade student, go to the shared folder to view the mentor list. The students who did not pass are highlighted.

So as the song goes:

"Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best...

And...always look on the bright side of life...
Always look on the light side of life... "

Again, thanks for all that you do. Have a great weekend!
