Meet Our Presenters:
Rick Alleva, Ed. D.; UNH Cooperative Extension, NH ASMP WT, F, PC
Rick has worked on UNH Cooperative Extension’s Youth & Family Team since 2002. He has a history of leadership in developing community-based education and intervention programs on behalf of young people and their families, including those experiencing significant personal and social challenges. Rick has assisted community-based efforts to address youth needs through demonstration programming, staff training, technical assistance/consultation, coalition building, grant development and other partnerships. He currently oversees the 4-H Youth Development Programming in Rockingham County and is a member of the NH Afterschool Network’s Leadership Team. Rick is a certified as a Master Professional trainer through the NH Afterschool Professional Development Career System and provides training and technical assistance in academic enrichment and social/emotional learning topics for afterschool, school and other providers as well as parents and youth themselves. He is a certified Youth Mental Health First Aid instructor and is trained to implement the Mindful Schools curriculum with school aged youth. Rick is especially interested in empowering young people to express their voice and take meaningful action to make a difference in their lives, and that of their community and their world.
Darlene Ayotte, M.B.A.; NH ASMP WT and NH ASA Level 4
Darlene is currently the Program Director for ACES 93 in Swanzey, NH. She began her career as an afterschool professional as a board member for a local teen center 14 years ago. She holds her Afterschool Administrator Level 4 Credential, from the NH Department of Health and Human Services, as well as her Afterschool Master Professional Workshop Trainer Credential. Darlene received her MBA from Franklin Pierce University in 2001 with a focus in Organizational Leadership. She studied English and Secondary Education at Keene State College, completing her BA in 1993. Darlene has always had a passion for learning and a desire to share her passion with everyone she comes into contact with. Throughout her career, Darlene has worked as a Head Start Classroom Assistant, a Pre-School Lead Teacher, a K-8 Substitute Teacher, an English and Economics Instructor at an Adult Education Center, and a grants manager. Credentials: NH ASMP WT and NH ASA Level 4
Heidi Belle-Isle, M.Ed.; NH ASMP WT, PC, IM and ASA Level 4
Heidi is a graduate of the University of Maine, and Antioch New England Graduate School. She has been teaching for 22 years and has classroom experience with children from preschool through high school. Currently Heidi teaches 6th grade in Conway, New Hampshire, and is the Site Director of the Morning and Afterschool Programs at Pine Tree Elementary School. Heidi has presented at the state and national level and enjoys leading adults in engaging, hands-on workshops. Credentials held: NH ASMP WT, PC, IM, NH and ASA Level 4
Jackie Chase, M.Ed.; NH ASMP IM, WT
Jackie completed her Master of Education in Educational Leadership at Grand Canyon University. She was most recently the Assistant Program Director for Monadnock Regional School District’s Out-of-School Time Program, ACES #93. Her first experience with out-of-school time programming was as a high school student. Throughout the last eleven years, Jackie has been employed by a non-profit child care center, by a non-profit teen center, and by two 21st Century Community Learning Center programs. Jackie has an interest in building positive relationships and creating programming to engage and enrich children and youth during out of school time. Credentials held: NH ASMP WT, IM and PC and NH ASA Level 3
Susan Gimilaro, M.A.; NH ECMP and ASMP WT, F, IM, PC
Susan is the Project Director for ACROSS NH where she works to provide professional development opportunities, consultation, and TA to afterschool programs in NH. Susan has worked as a consultant, coach, and trainer in a variety of education settings both locally and nationally. She has worked with early childhood programs, afterschool programs and public schools, as well as agencies and organizations that support quality initiatives in education. Her work focuses on adults working with youth. Whether in a public school, afterschool program, or an early childhood program, Susan helps adults to bridge current research with their professional practice. Her passion is to inspire staff in their professional development so that together we can create a level educational playing field for all children and youth. She believes we have an obligation to do so. Susan earned her Master's degree in Educational Administration from Cornell University and her Bachelor's degree in English and Elementary Education from Regis College.
Laura Hesse Moran; NH ASMP WT, AP
Laura is a consultant with the Foundation for Healthy Communities where she manages the CATCH Kids Club Program in New Hampshire. In this role, she works with afterschool and summer camp programs in their training and implementation of CATCH Kids Club. This includes helping sites create a successful and sustainable program all while working to establish policies that support healthy eating and physical activity. With more than 17 years of experience in health promotion, Laura has worked in a variety of areas including worksite health, health and nutrition coaching, childhood obesity prevention, trainings, and education.
Terri Peck, M.A.; NH ASMP F
Kristin Pineo, M.Ed.; NH ASMP WT
Kristin works as an education consultant supporting out-of-school time programs and community agencies as a trainer, curriculum developer, and coach. She has over 20 years of experience working with children and families, and a strong passion for increasing experiential STEM opportunities for youth. Kristin earned her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Boston College and her B.A. at Holy Cross. When she’s not helping young people to dissect cow hearts or frogs, (her favorite piece of work), she may be found kayaking, taking pictures, or discussing baseball with anyone who is willing.
Melanie Smith, M.Ed.; NH ASMP WT, IM, F, PC
Amy Upton, M.S.; NH ECMP & ASMP WT, F, IM, PC and ASA 4
Amy holds a Master of Science in Child and Family Studies and is credentialed as an Afterschool and Early Childhood Master Professional, Faculty, Program Consultant and Workshop Trainer. Amy has been in the field of Afterschool for over thirty years, during which time she founded and directs East Side Learning Center in Concord, New Hampshire. East Side provides care for over three hundred children and families. Additionally, Amy is an adjunct faculty member at New Hampshire Technical Institute and University of New Hampshire. She is a trainer and consultant for ACROSS New Hampshire and the Preschool Technical Assistant Network.
