Wiley News
- Spirit Week - Week of December 14 - In the Spirit of our annual Wiley tradition, we bring to you Wiley's 2020 'Wiley Gives Back Spirit Week' - a week of fun for face-to-face students and VA students, alike - see image below for dress-up and give-back opportunities. If you're not on-campus during the week of December 14 but wish to make a donation, please feel free to drop off at the front door during business hours, and we'll get the goods where they need to go.
Notification per state mandate (a roll-over announcement from 2019) - As a parent/guardian of a student at Wiley, I must inform you that Wiley has been designated as a Targeted Support & Improvement Additional Targeted Support (TSI-AT) school by the North Carolina State Board of Education. As stated in ESSA Section 1111(d)(2), North Carolina had to identify schools for targeted support and improvement.
As a TSI-AT school, Wiley is required to develop a comprehensive plan that specifically addresses how the school will improve student achievement. The plan will also include how our district will support us and monitor the progress of our school.

Please help make our 2020-2021 Yearbook amazing by submitting photos! We want to make sure ALL kids are included in this book, so please send in photos of virtual learning as well as photos from the school building.
Wiley Gives Back spirit week is a great opportunity to snap a photo of your kid in their spirit wear at home, decorating their mask or dropping off a canned good at the school. I'd love to dedicate a whole page in our book to Wiley Gives Back this year so please send a lot of photos!!!

News from our Cecilia Rawlins Fund
This December, the Cecilia Rawlins Fund needs help to pull off a holiday miracle for our Wiley community. The food insecurity at Wiley more than doubled from 38 to 80 children requesting and qualifying for food support since August of 2020. The need is unprecedented for our school. The Cecilia Rawlins Fund is working to raise funds to provide at least $100 grocery gift cards for all 80 children for the upcoming December break.
We are also working to raise funds for an additional gift card for our families as a “Holiday Helper” to provide families access to gifts and clothing for our Wiley students for the holidays. The traditional school-based program for giving will not be available this year due to COVID-19 restrictions, and the Cecilia Rawlins Fund wants to ensure every child feels the holiday cheer this year.
In all we are hoping to raise an additional $20,000 this December to distribute to our families in need. Please consider donating $100 today, but any amount will help us make it a special holiday season for our neediest students. While the holidays might look different this year for all of us, you can help us make a big difference for our Wiley community.
Go to our website at rawlinsfund.org to donate. You can choose our general donation button on the homepage. You’ll also see a “Holiday Helper” tab on the homepage to participate in that drive specifically. Every dollar raised will be spent to support our Wiley students.
Sincerely,
The Cecilia Rawlins Fund Board
PS This is an all-volunteer organization, so every penny that you donate goes directly to our families in need and is tax deductible.

Introducing a NEW Wiley Tradition
With nearly 100 years of service to generations of Wake County students, Wiley Elementary School remains fixed on St. Mary’s Street, freshly renewed and ready to serve generations to come. While we planned to celebrate with you in-person, we hope you will take a moment to enjoy the video below offering a glimpse into our new space and a reminder of Wiley’s timeless spirit of resilience and community.

As one of the final touches of the school’s amazing restoration and renovation, we would like to offer you an enticing and creative opportunity to leave a lasting legacy to the Wiley community. You can purchase commemorative bricks to celebrate the experience of alumni, students, neighbors, businesses, or even yourself! Anyone Wiley has touched and encouraged over the years is welcome! The school will arrange the bricks along the main entrance for all to see and admire.
The bricks will honor Wiley’s past, and provide for its future; proceeds will help support the Wiley Elementary Foundation, which is committed to providing resources to help fund positions crucial to sustaining Wiley’s award-winning International Studies Magnet program.
Bricks purchased by January 15th will be installed this spring and ready for viewing. Those purchased after that date will be placed later. The link to purchase is found on the Foundation's website.
Thank you for your support!
*We are grateful to Jack Abplanalp, Eagle Scout candidate & Wiley alumni, for the donation of his time and talents to build the brick border for this project.
