Destination Imagination

Elsa England had several teams compete in the Destination Imagination Regional Meet in February. DI teams work together throughout the year to collaboratively solve problems using creativity and ingenuity. Along the way students learn critical communication skills. The tournaments are a chance for teams to showcase their talents in front of live audiences and judges. Our 5th Grade Team, Cryptic Kids, placed 2nd at the regional tournament in the Scientific Challenge, Top Secret category. Cryptic Kids are moving on to the state level of DI competition in April. Good luck!

Staff Recognition

Every year RRISD schools participate in the National Teacher of the Year program. Each campus selects a teacher to recognize for outstanding work in the field of education. Teachers are chosen by their peers based on their passion for teaching and their pursuit of excellence. Deborah Swyers, 3rd Grade Teacher, has been named as the Elsa England Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Swyers was also recently recognized as a state finalist for the national program, Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

The Northwest Rotary Club extends staff recognition to include outstanding para-professionals. This year our staff selected Julie Satori as our Para Professional of the Year for her valuable work with teachers and students throughout the building. From helping with duty to providing small group reteaching or individualized student support, Mrs. Satori does it all! We appreciate her hard work and dedication.

Student Council

We are almost through the February Kindess Challenge! Stick with it! Our Student Council is leading the way as we work together to show kindness at all times at Elsa England. If you tweet, use the hashtag #EnglandKindness so we can easily find and retweet you! Student Council tweets from the handle @ElsaEngStuCo.

Student Council raised $1,000 for Austin Pets Alive from our annual Cocoa Grams fundraiser. The check was delivered in February and the APA staff has expressed deep admiration and appreciation to our England community. Outreach director for APA, Hannah Horstman, says, "That is a huge accomplishment and one the students should be very proud of!"

Thank you to our faithful Student Council Members and their dedicated teacher sponsors, Angela Holcek and Stephanie Lara!
