Merry Christmas!
Thank you so much to Mrs. Liddy for organizing our Christmas breakfast and all our supplies for the last two days. Thank you to all the parents who sent items in and helped out in the classroom. Thank you to all the parents the parents who've helped as volunteers with reading, writing, math and field trips. Finally, thank you parents for keeping your kids on track with their reading and math facts! The work at home has been paying off and I can tell in the classroom. I hope you all enjoy your break and have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Notes for the New Year
- Camp will come up quickly when we return. I'll send home more information and another packing list on Jan. 6.
- The spelling list for the week of Jan.2 is in the Friday folder.
- I did stick a reading log in the Friday folder if you'd like to use it over break and insist that your kiddo has to read! (It's not required...but I didn't tell them that.)
Language Arts
We have started our new reading assignment for the next eight weeks, there was a link and letter in last week's Friday folder. Students are required to read four more books between now and Feb. 14. They need to read three books on RAZ-Kids, one non-fiction book, and two fiction chapter books. Please help your child stay on track.
Reading- We read a biography about a Mexican-American immigrant who became a famous ballet dancer. We focused on author's purpose and sequencing.
Writing - Our writing this week was in response to our reading.
Grammar - We worked on subject and object pronouns.
Math
This week students continued to work on multistep word problems using more than one operation. They also worked on strengthening their mental math shills. After break we will start working on division with large numbers, so please help your child brush up on the multiplication facts!!
Social Studies
Social Studies- We started taking a “train” tour of the Northeast. We visited different places and learned interesting facts about each place. Students had a simulation in which they worked in groups and tried to imagine coming to Plymouth. They had to agree in their group on how they wanted to set up their government and try to convince the rest of the class to agree.
