From the Principal...Kristy McKnight

Each year D303 participates in the 5Essentials Survey. This survey is completed by parents, staff and students in grades 4-11. You can find information regarding the survey here , including the link to complete the survey. We strive for as much participation as possible, so if you can take a few minutes to complete the survey, it would be greatly appreciated. Our 4th and 5th grade students will complete their survey during the day with their classroom teacher.

As a reminder, next Wednesday is our Early Release. Elementary students are dismissed 2:10pm.

Have a good weekend,

Kristy McKnight

Infection Detection

Students in Ms. Gusterine's class collaborated with Mrs. Ignoffo our LRC director to combine their science knowledge with their tech skills! Students drew diagrams of the immune system and described what each part of the immune system does to keep the body healthy. Students are creating code in Scratch to program Makey Makey to report the function of the immune system organ when a button is touched on the student's diagram during LRC time. Below are some pictures of our students hard at work, as well as their awesome projects!

Recess

Winter has definitely arrived! Children will go outside to play for recess as long as it is above 0 degrees. Please help your child dress appropriately for the weather. Snow pants and boots are needed in order to play in the snow. With that, we've noticed that while students are in the snow they are sometimes unable to keep distance between them. They are busy having so much fun building forts and snowmen and they end up with their faces right next to each other. We do prompt them to keep their distance, but if you want your child to keep their mask on while playing in the snow at recess, please let them know to do so.

Extra Masks Needed

Please make sure your child has an extra mask or two in their backpack. Masks are getting lost, wet, or broken during the day and we have many children needing extras. Thank you!

Chess Club

Chess club meets on Monday, January 24th.

Shield Testing & Vaccination

It is recommended that you remove for child from Shield testing if they are fully vaccinated. In order to complete this, you need to visit the district website and click Shield Testing Registration, scroll down to the second page, click the link and uncheck your consent for Shield testing. The nurse is unable to enroll you.

E-LEARNING PLAN AND EMERGENCY DAYS

The School Board has approved an E-Learning plan that gives the district the option to offer remote learning in place of emergency days. Currently, our last day of school is Tuesday, May 24, which is the week before Memorial Day. As we move into the winter months, we want to update you on the plan for how the district will manage emergency days and e-learning days.

  • If we experience inclement weather, the first three days will be “snow days” that will be made up at the end of the school year on May 25, 26, and 27 as needed.

  • Subsequent emergency days will be remote days so the last attendance day will still be before Memorial Day.

  • If there is a long stretch of inclement weather (blizzard, polar vortex, etc.), we may split the days into “snow days” and e-learning days so as to not have too many non-attendance days in a row.
