Welcome to the 2021-22 School Year!
UPDATED Plan for Safe Return to In-Person Instruction
Face coverings are now required for staff, students and visitors in all KCSD facilities, regardless of COVID-19 vaccination status.
Our 2021-22 Plan for Safe Return to In-Person Instruction has been updated to reflect this change. You can view the latest plan here.
KCSD, ETHOS PARTNERING FOR COVID-19 VACCINATION CLINICS, VOLUNTARY TESTING
The Kenton County School District is partnering with Ethos Laboratories for drive-thru COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics.
The clinics will be held on Saturday, Aug. 21 and Saturday, Sept. 11 at Summit View Academy from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Johnson and Johnson vaccine (ages 18+) or the Pfizer vaccine (ages 12+) will be available.

In addition, Ethos is providing voluntary FDA EUA COVID-19 PCR testing to staff and students for the 2021-22 school year. These voluntary tests will be provided at no cost to any KCSD students, parents, faculty and staff. To register, please visit https://ethosbacktoschool.com/
For more information on the clinics and the testing, see this flyer.
Important Information about school meals during the 2021-22 school year
The Kenton County School District will continue to provide students with free breakfast and lunch for the 2021-2022 school year, regardless of income.
However, it is imperative that if your household would qualify for free- or reduced-price meals, you still complete the Free and Reduced-Price School Meals Application for all students in your household. By filling out this form, your child may receive additional benefits, and the number of applications approved can affect how much funding schools receive to meet academic benchmarks.
If you have questions about this matter, please call Paula Hauck at Kenton County Schools’ Nutrition Department, (859) 957-2687.
KCSD, Cincinnati State partner for AVIATION MECHANICS, AVIONICS, DRONE Career Pathway
The program is in the Aviation Mechanics, Avionics and Drone career pathway. The 15 high school juniors who are in the program will take classes in Unmanned Aerial Systems and Aircraft Orientation this fall, which will earn them seven hours of college credit.
Upon completion of the two-year program, the students can earn up to 36 hours of college credit as well as three certifications:
- UAS Certificate and eligibility to test for FAA Remote Pilot Drone Certificate
- Avionics Certificate and eligibility to test for NCATT Aircraft Electrician Certificate (AET)
- AMT General Certificate of Completion for FAA General Airmen Knowledge Test
The certifications are paid for by grants from the Kenton County School District and tuition scholarships are available from Cincinnati State. Tools needed for the program are being provided by a grant from the Team Kenton Foundation.

School is back in session...watch out for school buses!
As students return to school, Kentucky drivers are being reminded of the laws that apply to keep students safe.
The first thing is to note the reduced speed in and around schools. School zones are designed to slow drivers down when children are likely to be present and drivers should heed posted speed limits.
The next thing drivers should be aware of is the laws that exist when approaching a school bus. The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) and the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety (KOHS) have teamed up to help educate the public regarding school bus passing laws (see photos below).
Each year drivers illegally pass school buses that are loading or unloading students – with some drivers passing on the right side of the bus where students are often present. According to crash reports, more students are injured getting on or off the bus than at any other time during the bus ride.
When drivers see the yellow flashing lights on the bus, that means the bus is going to stop. Drivers should stop too, and not rush to pass the bus. Red flashing lights mean the bus is stopped to load or unload students. Drivers should stop, wait, and not move until the bus moves.
Bus Safety Tips for Parents
To help keep your children safe, below are important tips to teach them.
- Arrive at the bus stop five minutes before the bus is scheduled to arrive.
- Have all items in their book bag before they leave home so they do not drop anything.
- Wait at the bus stop in a safe place, 10-12 feet away from the road.
- Keep electronic equipment packed away as they prepare to board. Never use an electronic device or wear ear buds when walking to the bus stop or when getting on or off the bus.
- Return home to get help or phone for assistance if they miss the bus.
- NEVER chase after the bus.
- NEVER walk to another bus stop.
- NEVER drive your child to another bus stop without permission. The bus driver is not expecting them and your child may not be seen and can be injured.
