Parent meeting was held 2/5 to go over 5th grade graduation/celebration party needs. A vote was held to determine date of the celebration and the overwhelming majority voted for Tuesday, June 9th. Please mark your calendars as we will need lots of help from volunteers this date. We are also still looking for volunteers to lead pre-planning for: group games, carnival booth games, and day of photography. Please reach out to Michelle Powell at 734-658-5135 for further information. Remember, bagel day is 2/12 which supports funding for the graduation. Parents, this week your children focused on the second step lesson below. Please take a moment to talk with your children about how they took time to show positive behavior at school.
Managing Learning Challenges
Using our Calming-Down Steps at Keith Elementary helps us be better learners! There are many opportunities to practice your calming-down skills at school. You may have a strong feeling when you have to wait, or when you make a mistake, or when you have trouble finishing a difficult task. These are perfect moments to practice using your stop signal, naming your feeling, and calming down. When staff and students at Keith Elementary calm down our emotions, it helps us all learn.
Our focus for next week is listed below. We will review the following with your children when they return to school on Monday.
Say the Problem
We all have problems here at Keith Elementary School that can be hard to solve. Using Second Step Problem-Solving Steps can help us solve our own problems! The first step is S: Say the problem. When you have a problem, it’s very important to say what the problem is respectfully and without blame. Knowing exactly what the problem is will help you find the best solution! This week, remember to use your words and say the problem respectfully.

Announcements From our Keith PTA:
The Next Keith PTA Meeting is Tuesday, March 10th at 6:30pm in the Keith Media Center
Skate Night at Rolladium! Feb. 25th - 6:30pm
Thank you from Keith Green Team:
Over 120 1st and 2nd Grade Keith students, including green team members of all grades, were provided an opportunity to meet with a state park ranger who conducted an experiential educational program on mammals of Michigan. The measure of success of the program was quantified by the fact that we had almost a 100% raise of hands when students were asked “How many of you would like to see more such programs?“
The Keith Green Team thanks the following sponsors and donors:
- Karen Gourlay of the State Park Explorer Program at Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR)
- Jennifer Smith, Human resources, Archway Marketing Service, for donating a whole box of foot balls and soccer balls, protein bars and candies.
- Debra Morgan from MSU 4H for donating stationary
- The green team thanks Dr. A. and Keith Staff for supporting up to bring this program to school, Mr Hester for kindly providing the use of the media center, and Mrs. Diana Tyrrell and Mrs. Alice Johnson for always being so patient with scheduling with the paperwork involved in bringing in green team programs, and the class teachers and playground staff.
Spotlight on Allison Lazette-Magnan!
Meet Allison Lazette-Magnan, PTA member and Parent of Kindergartner, Genevieve Magnan (“GG”)! Allison is not only first year parent at Keith Elementary, but is also the newest addition to the PTA Board, having just recently accepted appointment to the position of the Health & Wellness Chair in January, 2020. (SIDEBAR: Allison has also agreed to step up and take on the role of Box Tops coordinator for Keith Elementary. Although Box Tops is not a PTA-related function, it’s a program that draws funds straight to the school, and Keith PTA is happy to help spread awareness of this program to our local community).
What is the Health & Wellness Chair? The Health & Wellness Chair facilitates events promoting health and wellness in the school and community. They may create goals and discover projects and activities that raise awareness of children and family’s health, wellness, and safety. If you have ever attended a Keith Family Skate night at Rolladium in the past year, or participated in “Taste a Rainbow,” you can thank your PTA Health & Wellness Chair for facilitating the event!
Thank you, Allison, for jumping right in, joining the Board, and chairing this important role!
