DPS School Wide COLOR WAR DAY!
Change with Homework Starting Semester 2
Originally students were completing one page per day in class as a warm-up, but in order to maximize our ELA time in class I have taken it out of our morning routine. Again, this is another resource available to you and would be great practice for homework.
Thank you!
LEAP Program Coming to DPS
Did you see that DPS is partnering with San Marcos Promise's LEAP program so teachers can offer after school enrichment classes this Spring?
There are 8 classes being taught by your very own Double Peak teachers on Thursdays Feb 6- March 19th.
A HUGE benefit is that a percentage of the class enrollment don't go to a 3rd party, they go straight back to our site funds and The San Marcos Promise, benefitting so many more students and programs! Not to mention...they are FUN classes! Our art teacher Mrs. Bullard will be running an awesome Glow in the Dark art camp.
Registration is now open and there’s a 10% early bird discount until 12/22!

WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE CLASSROOM??
- Homework: Students should complete and return their yellow homework sheet by Friday December 20th! Here is the link to this week's homework sheet. I sent home a review for our unit 3 math test that we will be taking on Tuesday. We have completed one in class together, but I encourage students to work on this and take the time to ask any questions on anything they still don't understand.
- Innovation: Innovation Block 2! Students will continue with the design thinking process to finish their prototype. Each group has decided on a product they want to improve and who their product is going to help. Students will synergize to build their prototype together with their groups.
- ELA/Language Arts - Unit 4: Comparing Points of View. Our essential question is: What makes people view the same experience in different ways? This week we will be finishing unit 4 and reading the story "The True Jack?" Reading standards we will be working on include: Identifying key events and summarizing, reading with characterization and feeling, analyzing the effect of nonliteral language on point of view and analyzing how illustrations affect mood and readers point of view. Unit 4 Parent Letter.
- Math - This week we will be finishing Unit 3: Problem Solving with Multiplication and Division and will take our unit test on Tuesday. We will also be practicing solving various multi-step word problems. Unit 3 Parent Letter.
- Writing -Students will finish writing a script between two characters from the stories we have read in the unit. Students will present their short plays to the class.
- Spelling- This week we will focus on words with a vowel team syllable pattern. A vowel team syllable contains two vowels that work together as a team to make one sound. The first vowel is long and the second vowel is silent. The spelling words for this week include: beans, green, week, feet, too, sprouted, boasted, shook.
- Vocabulary- Students will be able to use reference materials and context clues in a text to build their vocabulary. They will show their understanding of the words by using them in a sentence during collaborative conversations and in their writing. Our vocab words for the unit include: bargain, broad, claims, composed, dash, detestable, essentially, impulsive, snatched, toil.
- 7 Habits - Habit of the Month: Habit 2-Begin with the End in Mind. HAVE A PLAN! What we want to see from students: initiative, responsibility, integrity and vision. What we want students to do: goal setting, planning, time management and organization.
Ways to Support Your Child at Home!
- Encourage students to complete their homework each week. Multi-step word problems are a year long standard that we are working on and the math problem on the back of the homework gives students weekly practice in addition to what they are working on in class.
- Students can work on pages in the spiral review binder sent home!
- Read, Read. Read!!!
- Practice Multiplication Facts!
- Ideas for games:
- Multiplication War-flip over two cards and whoever can multiply the two numbers the fastest keeps the cards.
- Roll two dice and multiply the numbers together. Add up all of your products and the first person to 200 wins!
If you have any box tops at home please send them in! We collect box tops all year long!
