Wednesday 10/20 is a Digital Learning Day for all students. Students will learn asynchronously from home. Please make sure your child logs in to complete their assignments on Tuesday. Teachers will be checking email periodically during the day in between conferences.

Character Trait and Mindfulness Activity of the Month

Every month, we focus on a character trait to instill great character into our cubs. The character trait for the month of October is Sharing. Sharing includes sharing things and sharing ideas! As a reminder, teachers will be choosing one student this month who has exhibited sharing the most to represent his/her class as the Cub of the Month.

Great Days of Service is a great time to focus on this character trait! Consider bringing in food items to share with others in our community! The top 3 classes in the school who collect the most items will earn an extra recess!

Each month, we will feature a mindfulness activity on the announcements, during class meetings, and on our eCLASS page. You can watch Mrs. Woodworth do a demonstration of each month’s activity on the counseling eCLASS page. This month is “Slowly, Slowly”.

Bullying Lesson

This month, Ms. Woodworth has been teaching 5th graders about what bullying is and how to handle it. We define bullying as hurting someone’s feelings or body, on purpose, more than once, in a way that’s not fair. We then discuss strategies for handling bullying or conflict including being an upstander, listening to the other’s perspective, and telling an adult when you need help. Being able to tell when something is bullying or conflict helps children decide the best way to handle the situation.

Reading Rewards

Keep reading and logging your October reading rewards minutes! October reading logs were sent home in the Friday, Oct. 1st weekly folders. All October reading minutes will be due on or before Monday, Nov. 1st. Be sure your log is complete, with 20 different dates in October indicated on the log, with at least 20 total minutes of reading for each date. Incomplete logs will not be accepted.

We had many September readers! Prizes will be awarded early next week. In order to earn a prize each month, participating students will read and log at least 20 minutes per day for at least 20 days in the month. Students can read independently or with their parents at home. After completing the monthly requirement, logs are returned to the homeroom teacher. Parent initials are required in order to verify the reading.

If you have any questions about the Reading Rewards program, refer to the reading rewards link on the media center page of the school website or contact
