SUMMER MEAL ASSISTANCE
The State of NJ-Department of Agriculture will be implementing a permanent Summer EBT (S-EBT) Program beginning this summer that seeks to address food insecurity by providing grocery-buying benefits during the summer months for families with school-aged children who have qualified for free or reduced school meals via the 2023-24 Federal meal application.
Additional information will be forthcoming from the State, however, we need to ensure that our District families are aware of this new, permanent program and have applied, if they have not already done so. S- EBT information is currently on the district website, this information was also shared in Friday’s district e-newsletter.
Paper copies will be available in the Cooper Main Office if needed.
Applications will be accepted until June 14th.

READ ACROSS AMERICA
Celebrating Literacy!
NEA's Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading with the theme: Celebrating a Nation of Diverse Readers. During the week of March 4-7, we highlight the importance of this movement! Click here for an overview of the week long celebration.
Cooper Literacy Night
Our Home-School Connection Teacher Committee is planning an exciting Literacy Night for all Cooper Families! The event will take place on March 7, 2024 during Read Across America Week. Please click here to review the Literacy Night Flyer!
BLACK HISTORY READ-IN
During the month of February, our students will be learning about how their families' cultures and traditions help to shape who they are today. This week we will participate in a Black History Month Read In as we honor Black and African American literature and writers.
Connecting Beyond the Classroom
PRESIDENTS DAY
Today our school is closed in observance of Presidents' Day. Presidents' Day is an opportunity for the country to acknowledge the leaders of its government. In the 1880s the U.S. government made the birthday of our nation's first President, George Washington, (February 22) a national holiday. Some states made the birthday of President Abraham Lincoln (February 12) a holiday too. In 1968 the U.S. Congress passed a bill to move Washington’s Birthday from February 22 to the third Monday in February. At the same time, members of Congress wanted the holiday to honor President Lincoln as well. Today the holiday of Presidents’ Day is a celebration of Washington and Lincoln, and all U.S. presidents.

NJ STUDENT LEARNING ASSESSMENT CALENDAR (NJSLA)
The district spring testing calendar has been finalized and added to our school calendars. Keep in mind that health sleep and work habits make students feel more comfortable and perform better on assessments. These habits take time to develop.
This is a great time of year to consider the following questions:
- Is my child sleep getting 9-12 hours of sleep every night, including weekends?
- Is screen time (including TV, iPad, phone, etc.) limited to 2 hours per day?
- Is my child encouraged to eat plenty of fruits and veggies?
