The Bulldog Buzz!
Week of April 8, 2015
Don't forget to post the Words of the Week!
Being an educator in the 21st century means much more than delivering instruction. On any given day we are teachers, nurses, counselors, parents, coaches, and role models…not to mention all the assessing and data! Each and every day you give our students your heart and soul. In order to do this effectively, it is essential that you make efforts to recharge your battery and focus on your personal “small moments.” Over the (short) break, take the time to rest, read something fun, catch a movie, or just spend some extra time with your family and loved ones! You give your all to Bullock, so enjoy the 7th Inning Stretch! Thank you for all you do…and let’s finish strong!

The Curriculum Corner: Culturally Responsive Practices
The "achievement gap" plays a major role in the development of educational policy & practices; however, Dr. Jackson expresses that this gap has very little to do with instruction and is actually the function of a "relationship gap." In this powerful (and motivating) video, he goes on to say that in order to address "willful defiance" we must focus on proactive measures to ensure a scholarly environment & behaviors. Please take some time over the break to view the video & share your thoughts via email, social media or in the footer of the Buzz! I will have a copy of his text available when we come back from break if you would like to check it out!

News & Notes
- Stop by the Curriculum Corner at Wordpress to view Part 1 of the Standards of Mathematical Practice Series. I've added some extra tidbits to what was included in the Buzz. We will continue with SMP #5 after spring break.
- Please remember to maintain our focus on authentic student work & displays. Let's try to avoid "patterned writing" or "assembly line" types of projects as we set up our hallway displays.
- A Spring Recess Reminder: PLEASE refrain from any football related activities during recess. More often than not, this results in trips to the nurse or in situations that lead to conflicts.
