The Apollo Times
February 5th, 2023
Good evening Apollo Families, this is Dean May, Principal of Apollo High School. I hope you all have had a wonderful weekend! I would like to thank all of the students and families who came out to join us last Thursday night for our Open House. Families were also very generous supporting student activities on campus through donations and our bake sale. Thank you!
Calling all Apollo students! We are just a few deposits away from making Prom a definite go! We know many of you are still planning on going and bringing a guest...so please get your deposits in by Wednesday, February 8th. Maria was able to get a two-day extension, so please see her with any questions. All of the information for Prom can be found in the Apollo Times.
Hey students, the Apollo Yearbook needs your help! Did you go somewhere special during one of our holiday breaks? Do you have a car or pet you would like to highlight in our yearbook? Seniors, do you have a baby photo you would like to share with us? Click on one of the buttons in the Apollo Times and share your pictures with us. See Carolina if you have any questions.

Also, Joe is hosting open gym and open weight room every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday after school. Make sure to see him if you are interested...and bring a friend!
Next Saturday, February 11th, the Soroptimist International of Simi Valley will be hosting a special "Dream It Be It" Coffee Talk for all interested female students. This Wednesday, February 8th, Daybreak Counseling and counselors from the Simi Valley Unified School District will be hosting a free family education webinar about LGBTQ+ support for families. More information can be found in the Apollo Times...including how to register for the event.
Students, you all have 34 days left in the quarter to earn 5 credits in all of your classes! It is critical to arrive at school everyday, on time, with your fully-charged laptop. Please see the make-up productive hour schedule in the Apollo Times if you need to spend time with any teachers outside of school to make up your hours. And families, please remember to call the office and speak with Kim any time your student misses school. Families only have 5 days to report an absence before it turns into a truancy. Thank you.
Please take time to read this week's Apollo Times completely, as we have information on important dates to calendar, information on how students can ride any bus in Ventura County for free, Studio Movie Grill fundraising tickets, receiving breakfast and lunch, following Apollo High School on social media, the anonymous tip form and QR code, improving reading Lexile levels through Achieve3000, resources, fundraising, and so much more.
Finally, this week is National School Counseling Week. We all know how important our Counselors are in helping all of our students dream big! I would like to acknowledge Maria and Gabby for all they do for our school, students, and their families. We are also very lucky to have a wonderful school psychologist, Giuliana, who supports our special populations as well. Students, take time this week to thank your Counselor! Thank you, have a great evening!

Improving Reading Through Achieve3000
At Apollo High School, we are committed to preparing students to live their best lives. That includes helping all of our students improve their reading ability. All students should know their Lexile level score, which is their reading ability level. Every week students participate in Achieve3000 reading activities. On Tuesdays we all read the same article during our 21st Century Schedule on campus. Lexile levels will improve throughout the year if students do their best on these activities. Higher Lexile levels can lead to higher quality jobs and higher salaries. Please see information below about Lexile levels as they relate to grade levels, and the Lexile levels needed to read required material for different jobs. If you need to know your student's Lexile level please contact me!
