THINGS TO KNOW AND DO
Help San Diegans this holiday season! Builders Club is collecting hygiene products from 11/27 to 12/14 to put together hygiene kits for We All We Got San Diego, a local organization that distributes food and care packages to community members in need. In addition to travel size hygiene products like soap, shampoo, and toothpaste, we are collecting bottled water, toilet paper, menstrual products, gallon size ziploc bags, and plastic grocery bags. Please see the flyer for our most needed items. All hygiene products and bottled water must be new and unopened. Bring donations to room 220 before or after school or drop them off at the front office with a note saying they are for Builders Club/Ms. Dietz. Please contact Ms. Dietz with any questions. Thank you! - Builders Club
The Middle School Athletics program is getting ready for the winter season. Registration is now open for boys’ and girls’ teams in soccer and volleyball, available to all San Diego Unified students in grades 6-8 free of charge.
From first-time players to seasoned athletes, middle school sports are a great way to stay active, learn new skills, and get involved with school.
Middle School Athletics teams represent their school in organized competition against other schools within the district, building camaraderie and new friendships while providing young athletes a structured sports experience with qualified coaching.
The teams also play at San Diego Unified high school athletic facilities, giving middle schoolers a chance to establish a connection and familiarity with their future school campuses.
Registration is now open and closes December 1.Learn more or sign up here today! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdSdkGneS1Cn5C7-zIEwOA6kAheamn5Hko0M71SptCcd2Ehpw/viewform
Transgender Awareness Week
It's Transgender Awareness Week from Monday, November 13th to Sunday November 19th ! Here is a video to celebrate this week!

California has specific laws that protect LGBTQIA+ students. One of those laws is the School Success and Opportunity Act. This law extends gender identity and gender expression discrimination protection to transgender and gender nonconforming K-12 students in public schools.
From the Health Office
We are looking for 3 student members for the Lewis Middle School Wellness Committee. If you are interested in joining please stop by the Health Office and speak with Nurse Amy on Monday, Wednesday or Fridays.
If you are coming to the Health Office during passing period, please report to your next class and get a pass from your teacher before coming over to avoid being marked absent or tardy.
The Health Office restroom is not for general use. You must have permission and a pass from either your counselor, associate principal or the nurse in order to use the health office restroom. All other students must use the restrooms in the hallway.
New Health Office Policy as of 11/01/23: For student confidentiality and privacy when you enter the Health Office you will be required to place your backpack and all belongings in a cubby. If you will be going to lay down or use the restroom, you will place your cell phone or other electronic devices in the hanging organizer on the door.
The Health Office is no longer able to provide snacks for students. If you come in to the Health Office due to a missed meal, you will be directed to the cafeteria to obtain breakfast or lunch if available. Please plan accordingly with bringing snacks and lunch to school. Please also remember to bring a water bottle with you to school, if you do not have a water bottle you need to use the water fountains in the hallway.
Native American Heritage Month
In California, the FAIR Education Act requires the contributions of both men and women, Native Americans, African Americans, Mexican Americans, Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders, European Americans, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans, persons with disabilities, and members of other ethnic and cultural groups, to the economic, political, and social development of California and the United States of America, with particular emphasis on portraying the role of these groups in contemporary society.”
Learning about the contributions of the above-mentioned groups and others, not only gives us a much more accurate picture of history and contemporary society but also helps build up positive role models and destroy negative stereotypes.
