Runyan Mission
Our Mission: Something to ponder...
- How am I adapting my support based on the different situations surrounding my students' home access to learning?
Before you marry a person, you should first make them use a computer with slow Internet to see who they really are. ~Will Ferrell

School Closure Updates as of 3.26.20
Please see my hastily written notes from the district meetings this week:
Essential Operations:
- Hourly employees may work from home, but cannot exceed standard hours
- Hourly staff get paid double when in building
- Only work between the hours of 8:00-3:00, including email, texts, etc. NO WORK OUTSIDE 8:00-3:00.
- Try not to be in the building – no custodians on duty to clean because of essential operations
- Teachers can still come to pick up / drop off according to my schedule, but have to be spread out
- Custodial cannot mist all the classrooms – only one teacher within his/her room
- If someone sick in building, contact Marshall Schoeder to clean / e-mist
- Wipe copy machine before and after use
- Phones still need to be monitored – forward through Terry McClaugherty’s department (James Street?)
Required to keep samples of work in case of audit
- Not from each student, but from each classroom – need record of our instruction during this closure
- Canvas or Dreambox let Teri Ross know, and she can archive
- Otherwise keep physical samples
Grading:
- Collecting 1 grade per week in , R, W, S, Math, S
- Be creative in response to kids’ situations at home – figure out a way
- Have a common system within the grade level
Progress reports – have conversations with parents about issues that have been ongoing throughout the year; not about retention – 4th nine-weeks should not define a child’s year
- No CISD student will be negatively affected by anything that happened after Spring Break
- Progress Report Schedule: April 24 last grade, pull grades on April 27, parents see progress report grades on April 29
Zoom can be used with students
- Considered a classroom environment
- Do in living room, not secluded space for student
- No groups less than 5 students
- One-on-one only with parent present
- If notice inappropriate behavior, still may have to report to CPS – use professional judgement
- Students should be invited through a closed system
- Conferences cannot be recorded then sent through email
PK Fair on hold
Still doing food distribution – volunteers will undergo health screening before participating
- No Tylenol or Motrin before coming, because cannot ascertain if have fever
- Cannot distinguish between allergy cough or sick cough, so coughing cannot volunteer
Continue social distancing in all situations outside immediate family
Paper distribution:
- As paper returned, wait 24 hours before touching
- Wear gloves during all parts of paper prep/distribution/receiving process
- Do Tuesdays and Thursdays, at most, because people already out to pick up food – want to minimize people out and about during Stay Home order
- Minimum number of people should be involved
Canvas – Communications will share info. – graphics, info., etc.
May need to clear browser’s casche if get error message using School Messenger from home
We will have financial challenges in the 2020-2021 school year due to a predicted drop in enrollment.
Need to minimize financial risk / exposure
- If people keep kids home when sick, may impact attendance, which also impacts funding
Virus will not be gone next year; we’ll just know more about it and how to combat it
Parents may not send students back
Health Update:
- Continue social distancing
- 28% of the spread is due to a-symptomatic people up to 2 days before symptomatic
- Use page 2 questionnaire before come to campus – people can do at home and self-monitor
- Keep a record of who is coming to campus and when
- Reach out to post office and put a hold on mail and can then pick up when convenient. Call 1-800-askusps
Custodial
- Will monitor availability of disinfectant in mail room
- E-mist M/W/F in admin. area, so try to stay in admin area if can social distance – let Marshall know if meet in a different area
- Short term absences need to be removed – coordinate with Ilze
Travel quarantine – LA and NY = quarantined for 2 weeks
Still trying to have graduation; feeder principals probably will not attend due to efforts to shrink attendance – probably late June and July
