Te Karere a te Tumuaki - Principal's Message
Tēnā koutou katoa (hello everyone). Welcome back to school for term 3. As I outlined in the recent holiday update, we have a busy and creative term ahead. Please see the calendar list below of important dates for this term.
It has been fantastic to connect with tamariki this week and catch up on how the holidays have been for everyone. We welcomed 3 new students to school on Monday - Addison, Olivia and Hadleigh. All three have settled in well and it is super to have them here as part of 'Team Gladdy'. Also on the team is our new student teacher - Merryn Hamilton. Merryn is working in Kourarau Syndicate and has made a fabulous start to her time with us.
Staff have been busy analysing assessment information over the holidays and are now using this information to inform their teaching and student learning. Students have been creating their latest learning map and recording videos of themselves talking about their goals for term 3. The videos will be shared with you early next week. Please watch your child's learning maps video prior to our 3 Way Conferences.
An interesting article came out during the week about attendance. This infographic was created to summarise the article. The main message behind the infographic is that 'Every Day Counts'.
Conferences are scheduled for week 3 of this term (Tuesday 10th, Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th of August). Interview slots start at 1pm and go through until 7:15pm for Y1-6 and from 1pm until 5:15pm for Y7-8.
Appointments will be based around student learning goals for the next 6 months, as well as an opportuntiy for you to discuss recent mid-year reports and any other matters. Conferences are 15 minutes long. If you don't have time to cover everything you would like to, teachers can organise a follow up meeting. It is important we stick to time to avoid running into someone elses time slot - thank you in advance for this.
We encourage students to attend the conferences. This is to enable students, whānau and teacher to all be on the same page with progress moving forward. If you have difficulty booking a time, please contact principal@gladstone1.school.nz and I will we happy to assist.
I am away now until Thursday the 5th of August in Wellington and then in Rotorua at the NZ Principal's Federation Conference. Graham Brown and the team will be covering in my absence. I look forward to seeing everyone at the end of next week and wish you a wonderful weekend.
Ngā manaakitanga,
