Principal's Message

Dear Terra Linda Families,

Thank you for all you are doing to help your students sign in to Zoom throughout each school day, complete Seesaw or Canvas activities, read for as much time as they can each day, and complete Dreambox lessons. We appreciate you partnering with us as we support learning and growth.

There is no school for all BSD students tomorrow. Teachers have a grading/assessment day. You should be receiving feedback from your child's teacher throughout the semester informing you of your child's progress. This could come in the form of comments on Seesaw or Canvas activities, an email or phone conversation, or other types of summaries. Thank you for all you are doing to support your child in completing assignments and activities and making sure they participate in whole class and small group Zoom sessions. For your planning purposes, first semester report cards will be posted to ParentVue likely by February 12. Most report card marks let you know your student's progress toward end of year targets.

As a reminder, if you would like to nominate your child for TAG testing, please complete one of these forms then either send it as an attachment to elizabeth_sarles@beaverton.k12.or.us or drop a printed copy off at Terra Linda by Friday, November 13.

Last week, I shared some information about Dreambox. If you would like to monitor your child's use of Dreambox and see the progress your child is making related to different math skills, be sure to set up Dreambox Parent Access. To do so, your child needs to login to Dreambox on a laptop, desktop computer, or Chromebook (not an iPad).

To login to Dreambox on a personal laptop or desktop, do the following:

  • Go to the BSD website
  • Click on Students then select Apps for Students
  • Click on icon for BSD Clever Dashboard
  • Click on Log in with Active Directory
  • Enter your student's BSD email address (xxxxxx@bsd48.org) and password
  • Click on the Dreambox icon
  • Look for the envelope icon in the lower right corner of the Dreambox screen (see picture below)
  • Click on it to set up your parent email address and password.

If you have more than one student using Dreambox, you will need to follow the above steps for each student. Call us at Terra Linda if you do not have a Chromebook, laptop, or desktop computer (if you only have an iPad or iPhone) at home. We can help you set up a parent account from school.

Students can continue to access Dreambox through Clever using an iPad, laptop, Chromebook, or desktop. Once the parent account is set up, you can access it from any device.

Unfortunately, with the Governor's announcement midday on 11.13, we are postponing the date for School Pictures with Dorian Studios. The next available date will be in January or February.

Finally, please encourage your children to attend the optional 2:30 Play & Chat with Friends opportunities. Details below.

With appreciation,

Christy

Balancing Screen-Time with Staying Active and Getting Rest

Tuesday, November 17, from 5:00-6:00pm Central Time (3:00-4:00pm Pacific Time)

With social distancing and remote learning limiting our ability to connect and be active, daily screen time has increased exponentially. Join us for this interactive presentation led by the Together for Students Chicago Initiative, including our partners at Thrive Chicago with CPS Competency Based Education and Communities in Schools Chicago, to learn how to effectively manage this new normal while making time for our health and physical activity.

How Parents Support Social and Emotional Learning at Home

Tuesday, November 24, from 5:00-6:00pm Central Time (3:00-4:00pm Pacific Time)

Social and emotional learning in the home means that you can use moments that happen organically to grow your child’s SEL skills while managing your own. Join us for this interactive presentation led by the Together for Students Chicago Initiative, including our partners at Thrive Chicago with CPS Competency Based Education, and Communities in Schools Chicago, to learn about strategies for intentional SEL application at home. The session will also cover what advocating for SEL at your child’s school looks like, and how modeling best practices can lead to an improved quality of life for your children and family.

Holiday Assistance for Families (Repeat) - Requests due by Friday, 11-20

Terra Linda typically runs a food drive in November and then offers Food Boxes to Terra Linda families who request a box. When families picked up their food box, they also received a grocery gift card from our PTC to help them supplement meals over the long Thanksgiving Break.

This year, due to COVID-19, we have decided not to collect food for redistribution. This is for safety reasons but also because there are many opportunities in our community to get a weekly food box, either by drive through pick up or by delivery. See below for a list. The Terra Linda PTC would still like to support Terra Linda families who need additional items over the Thanksgiving Break.

Winter Break is another time when families might need additional support. Every year, we offer families a delivery of food and gifts for the upcoming Winter Break by connecting families to local agencies. We are offering this opportunity this year, too.

Please call us at Terra Linda at 503.356.2490 anytime between now and Friday, November 20 to request assistance for either Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, or both.
