Principal's Message
Dear St. Maria Goretti Catholic School Families,
I hope that you are enjoying your Sunday!
We are in the process of writing our 2022-2027 Strategic Plan. This plan is designed to provide schools with goals, objectives, and directions that will assist us in carrying out our mission: "Saint Maria Goretti Catholic School is a living testament to our Lord's work in His youngest disciples, exemplified by academic excellence, spiritual formation, and compassionate service to others."
We focus on four key areas: Mission and Catholic Identify, Academic Excellence, Leadership and Governance, and Operational Vitality. I am looking for parents who would like to help write this important document. Please email me if you would like to help.
On Fridays, during Lent, the students will be in the Church praying the Stations of the Cross. Classes leave for the Church at 2:20 PM and are in the Church until 3:00 PM. If you know that you will be picking up your student for an appointment during that time, please contact the front office so we can have the student(s) waiting for you and not have to interrupt Stations. Thank you.
Please pray for the people of Ukraine.
St. Maria Goretti, Pray for Us!
Blessings,
Amy Utendorf, M.Ed.

Pope Francis’ Consecration of Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary
Pope Francis presided in St. Peter’s Basilica for the celebration of penance, at which time he consecrated Russia and Ukraine to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, praying for the end of the war between the countries. SMGCS students joined parishioners in the church as Father Mike prayed the consecration for Russia and Ukraine.
The Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary by a specific act of a reigning Pope along with all the other Catholic bishops of the world was ordered in a Marian apparition by Our Lady of Fátima in 13 July 1917. This is a prayer for peace. Sister Lucia, one of the children who saw Our Lady at Fatima, said that the Blessed Virgin Mary told them, "God wishes to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart. If what I say to you is done, many souls will be saved and there will be peace. The [First World] war is going to end; if people do not cease offending God, a worse one will break out during the pontificate of Pius XI. When you see a night illumined by an unknown light, know that this is the great sign given you by God that He is about to punish the world for its crimes, by means of war, famine, and persecutions of the Church and of the Holy Father. To prevent this, I shall come to ask for the consecration of Russia to my Immaculate Heart, and the communion of reparation on the first Saturday's. If my requests are heeded, Russia will be converted, and there will be peace. If not, she will spread her errors throughout the world, causing wars and persecutions of the Church. The good will be martyred, the Holy Father will have much to suffer, various nations will be annihilated. In the end, my Immaculate Heart will triumph. The Holy Father will consecrate Russia to me, and she will be converted, and a period of peace will be granted to the world."
Stations of the Cross
SMGCS celebrated the Stations of the Cross Friday. The Stations of the Cross, also known as the Way of the Cross and the Way of Sorrow (Via Crucis in Latin), detail fourteen different moments on the day Jesus died. This prayer pilgrimage is a powerful way to grow closer to Jesus, especially during the Lenten season.
3rd - 8th Grade Attended Confession
My God,
I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.
In choosing to do wrong
and failing to do good,
I have sinned against you
whom I should love above all things.
I firmly intend, with your help,
to do penance,
to sin no more,
and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.
Our Savior Jesus Christ
suffered and died for us.
In his name, my God, have mercy.
(Rite of Penance, no. 45)

6th Grade Art
During the Middle Ages all books were handmade works of art. These manuscripts were often beautifully illustrated, with gold or silver leaf used to reflect light on the page. The word illumination, meaning 'to light up', is used to describe this decoration on the pages of a book.
An illuminated letter was usually the first letter of a page. These were large and colorful, with areas in gold, while the rest of the text was black. The images used to illustrate the letters included animals, plants and mythical creatures.
6th - 8th Grade Science
Performing Arts
Students prepared props, typed scripts and practiced lines for upcoming Performing Arts presentations. They exhibited great team work!
