GES: Growing Excellence in Students - A message from Mrs. Hudgins
These are characteristics of learners that can be developed through hard work and practiced behaviors. Attributes such as a thirst for knowledge, pondering big ideas, and seeing things from different perspectives create students that become successful people. Some other scholarly traits are identified in the image below.
You can support your Gator at home by helping them develop these skills along with the ability to ask good questions. When students are curious and inquisitive, they become open to learning new ideas and taking risks. These are traits that make our students achieve excellence!
Dismissal process
I am excited to share that we were able to meet with our WISD parking lot security team and observe the movement of our dismissal process. The suggestions will slightly change our afternoon traffic patterns which should reflect a faster, smoother, safer dismissal. Beginning right away, we are directing the lane to exit onto McCreary without merging into the lane that goes into the parking lot.
After fall break, we will open the 2nd lane of traffic and we will be able to load both lanes of students to double our efforts to dismiss. Yay! The left lane may go straight onto McCreary or turn left into the parking lot. The right lane may only go straight onto McCreary. Cones will prevent the right lane from u-turning into the parking lot.
I will share this in our newsletter as well and a homemade picture to try to help create a visual.
Please have patience with us as we continue to do what we can to work with the large number of families picking up students.
Walker Safety Reminder
I need your help. Unfortunately, when our students cross at the crosswalk by the guard hut we are no longer monitoring their safety. The city of Wylie provides protection at both crosswalks with crossing guards and crosswalks. Some of our students are crossing at unsafe places along side streets that are not supervised instead of using the crosswalks.
Please talk with your children about looking both ways before crossing the street. If at all possible, encourage them to cross only at the crosswalks. If they must cross at another street, wait until there are no cars coming before crossing.
Also, there are students along the way saying inappropriate words and being unkind to others. Please remind your child that as a Groves community of learners, we commit to influence the world in a positive way. Those are not behaviors we need to continue.
I would walk each of our Gators home if I could. They just need some reminders to stay safe!
Thank you,
Mrs. Hudgins
Socioeconomic Status survey closes 10/8
During student registration for the new school year, all Wylie ISD families were asked to complete a Socioeconomic Information Survey. The district recently received updated guidance on the income eligibility guidelines, and we encourage families to update their socioeconomic survey. The survey can be found in Skyward Family Access. The deadline to complete the survey is Friday, Oct. 8.
For those families who qualify based on income, there are numerous benefits including:
- Wylie Way Christmas eligibility
- College readiness waivers and discounts including SAT, ACT and AP exam fees and college application fees
- Free dual credit courses through Collin College
- NCAA fee waivers
- Various other district discounts
- Increased state funding for Wylie ISD to help at-risk students
Thank you for your participation. If you have questions, please email assist@wylieisd.net.
