Athletics Update January 2022
High School Swim: We will continue strength and conditioning twice a week Tuesday and Thursday’s and transport to the Natatorium during the 8th period Monday and Wednesday, following swim practices from 4:45-6. We now have the pool till 6:15 on Monday and Wednesday and 6:20 on Tuesday and Thursdays for swimmers who may show up late due to tutoring or other sports. We have our TISCA Invitational this weekend the 7th and 8th in TM. Friday warm-up starts at 1 pm and Saturday at 9 AM. We have a tri-meet in Calallen on January 12th at 5 PM. Last meet before the district meet. The boys’ team is looking pretty good to place at district, both in relays and individual events.
- January 29th is our district meet in Corpus
- February 4th & 5th are Regionals in Corpus
High School Girls Basketball: Over the Christmas break, the Lady Coyotes swept Gonzales HS, JV 50-32, and Varsity 52-35. The Lady Coyotes competed in the Orange Grove Holiday Basketball Tournament and finished 2nd. Freshman, #22 Kaylin Cervantes and Senior, #10 Daniella Contreras received All-Tourney. This was a great way to finish tournament play before we head into the district. We start district play this Friday, January 7th, against Robstown in Robstown with JV playing at 5 pm and Varsity at 6:15 pm!
High School Boys Basketball: Alice Coyote Basketball has been rolling with games and tournaments on the road. The boys brought home the Consolation from Poteet High School, 2nd Place finish at Bloomington Tournament, and a 1-3 Finish with a shorthanded Coyote Team at the Rockport Fulton Tournament. The Boys are playing very hard and competitive despite dealing with injuries and illness as of late as we have dropped some close games due to this and really some lackluster shooting from the free-throw line! Coyote Hoops is gaining respect and if we can remain healthy in the next couple of weeks we will go into District Play with confidence. District begins January 14th for the Boys. We will open up AWAY @ Kingsville
High School Golf: Varsity Boys Golf placed 4th overall as a team in the Victoria Invitational out of 11 Varsity Teams. Oscar Pena was 4th and Ricardo Gonzalez tied for 12th overall. Coach Canales was very pleased and mentioned the boys are getting better each week. The JV Teams play at River Hills and placed 3rd in the girl's division. Our next tournament is Monday and is the Alice Municipal
Girls Soccer: The Girl Soccer program just completed the scrimmage phase of the 2022 season. We were very competitive in both scrimmages. We open our season on Jan 4th with a home match against Laredo Nixon. We will travel to a tournament in Tuloso on Jan 7th-8th. We are excited about this season and are expecting great things!
Boys Soccer: The Boys Soccer program just completed the scrimmage phase of the 2022 season. The varsity finished with a 4-2 victory over Zapata and split their doubleheader with Alice Alumni FC with a 2-1 win and a 1-0 loss. Overall the varsity had a scrimmage record of 3-2. The JV squad also had a successful scrimmage phase with a 3-1 record.
Now the Coyotes Varsity squad begins the non-district regular-season phase with a match versus CC King and the Alice Coyote Kickoff Cup tournament on Saturday, January 8 here in Alice. Both squads will see action the next few weeks as they face teams like CC Carroll, Rockport-Fulton, and Beeville.
The district phase will begin at home on Tuesday, January 25 versus Tuloso-Midway, then will travel to Ingleside on Friday, January 25. Expectations are high for both squads on and off the field, and they are working hard to achieve those expectations. In fact, 40 out of our 42 kids remained eligible after the 2nd grading period. We are looking forward to greater things in 2022 from our program.
