Rivera Community of Schools
June Monthly Newsletter
Message from Dr. Sample
Greetings families!
I hope you are doing well as our community is beginning to experience a semblance of life consistent with pre-pandemic. Additionally, I want to THANK our families for your support and patience during the April reopening of schools. Because of your collaboration and input, each of our 23 schools experienced a smooth reopening.
The month of June marks the time of the year we begin to close out the year and prepare for the summer. Though there are only 8 days left in the 2021-2022 school year, it is imperative that we FINISH STRONG as the 2020-2021 school year has undoubtedly presented its share of challenges. For that to happen, we ask that you support us by ensuring your child is in attendance each day and is completed all assignments and end-of-the-year assessments. How students end this year will influence their outcomes in the coming months. We want to ensure each student ends successfully as they will be either transitioning to the next elementary grade-level, culminating and moving to middle or high school, or graduating high school and pursuing their post-secondary endeavors.
In this month’s newsletter, you will find information regarding the following:
- May 24th Townhall Last Week
- Summer Learning and Enrichment Opportunities
- COVID-19 vaccinations for Students Ages 12 and Older
- Expanded Learning Grant Funding
- Culmination/Graduation Protocols
Let's FINISH STRONG during this last three weeks of instruction!
Sincerely,
Reginald A. Sample, Ed.D.

Your Input & Voice MATTERS
From the State of California, Los Angeles Unified is anticipated to receive approximately $400 million from a fund of $4.6 billion approved by the legislature and Governor Newsom. We are grateful for our governor and his investment in extended learning. In addition to state funding, we are also anticipating $2.2 billion in one-time federal funding from the American Rescue Plan. We wish to capture the perspectives of our diverse communities and represent the voices of students, families, teachers, administrators, and community members.
What investment would you recommend for each of the 5 strategies?
- Health and Safety
- Instructional Support
- Mental Wellness
- Intensive Support for Specialized Population
- Parent and Family Engagement
To collect ideas we invite you to type and submit your ideas on an application by the name of Thought Exchange. Please click on (Input from the Community) to direct you to the application
If you have not already done so, please make time to visit the site, provide your comments, and rate comments shared by others at Los Angeles Unified. Attached are guides in English and Spanish to assist you.
