Articles of Confederation
Strengths and Weaknesses
What is the Articles of Confederation?
The Articles of confederation is the original constitution of the United States. It was ratified in 1781 and later replaced by the US constitution in 1789. The articles of confederation had its strengths and has its weaknesses.
Why it was created?
I believe the articles were created to be such a weak central government because they didn't there people to feel like they were still under the control of Great Britain. They wanted their first government to have control but no to much control.
Weaknesses
National government could not enforce laws they passed
National Government could not tax
caused the states to suffer economically
No military power
Strengths
Three Reasons
The articles of confederation was the first written agreement and first constitutions of the United States. Congress had the power to deal with foreign affairs and authority to declare war, and make peace, alliances and sign treaties. Congress had the power to deal with native Indian affairs.
