Digestive System

By: Blake, Julie, and Tanner P.

Main Function

The main function of the digestive system is to break down food into nutrients and to get the nutrients into the blood.

Main Parts

The main parts of the digestive system are salivary glands, esophagus, stomach, pancreas, liver, gallbladder, large intestine, small intestine, and mouth.

What Each Part Does

The salivary glands provide saliva to moisten your food to break down your food. The esophugus is a long tube that leads food to your stomach.Your gallblader breaks down fats into smaller particles. In the stomach gastric juices break down proteins. The liver secretes bile. The small intestine is the digestion of food is completed by chemicals produced in the large intestine .The large intestine takes undigested food passed into. There water and minarals pass into the blood and waste is removed.

How This System Affects Other Body Systems

The Circulatory System puts nutrients from food into blood system. The Skelatal System supplies calcium and nutrients for bone growth and repair. The Muscular System provides nutriendts (such as glucose) for muscle contraction, growth, and repair. The Nervous System proveides nutrients for the growth, maintenace and functioning of neurons and neuroglia cells. The Respiratory System provides nutrients for the repiratory organs.

How Other Body Systems Affect This System

The Skelatal System protects organs in digestive system. The Muscular System has smooth muscles push food and nutrients along the digestive track. The Nervous System sends signals to the muscles of the esophagus to move the food through the digestive track. The Repiratory System provides the cells of the gidestive track with oxygen needed for metabolism and takes away the wate product carbom dioxide.

Some Problems (Disease/Illness) Of This System

Some dieseases and illnesses of the Digestive System are diabetes, removle of gallbladder, hepatitis, cirrihosis, gallstones, appendicitis, chron's disease, stomach flu, diverticulosis, colorectal cancer, hemorrhoids, diarrhea, ulcers, hiatal hernia, mumps, and acid reflux.

Three Fun Facts About The System

Large intestine is about 5 feet in length and 2.5 in diameter. The pancres produces a fluid that neutralizes stomach acid and chemicals that help finish digestion. The liver produces bile that is stored in the gallbladder until its needed.
