Christopher's Background
Christopher was born in 1451 and died in 1506. He was born near the seaport of Genoa, Italy. By his early 20's he was a seaman sailing from Genoa to England. In 1484 he became a commander of a ship.
Christopher's Achievements
Discovered the New World
Christopher discovered the new world but wasn't the first to discover it. Many historians believe that the vikings discovered the New World before him .
Discovered Cuba
Christopher discovered Cuba on his second voyage although it wasn't the first island he found .
Discovered the Bahamas
After leaving Cuba, Christopher found another set of islands called the Bahamas also on his second voyage.
Impact on today
Christopher discovered our land although he wasn't the first to find it. He also impacted our world by giving the Europeans a new place to trade goods and ideas, also give them more trade routes. Also he helped the US start.
Interesting Facts
Christopher had two sons both had different mothers. His Voyage of Discovery idea was rejected five times. Christopher Columbus was only fourteen when he went to sea for the first time.
