Summit and Ixonia Elementary Music

2nd Grade Feature

The second graders have been working on learning to read and write with the melodic syllable "do." Before students see what "do" looks like on the staff, the students learn songs, games, and dances that contain "do." The song "Que Llueva" not only contains the melodic syllable "do," but the song has a game that goes with it!

During the game, two students form a bridge, and all students go under the bridge. When the words "qué sí" are sung, the bridge goes down. When the words "qué no" are sung, the bridge lifts. At the end of the song, the bridge goes back down, and whoever is caught under the bridge, gets to be the next half of the bridge.

The students are also singing in Spanish. The English translation of the song is...

It's raining! It's raining!

The frog is in the cave.

The little birds are singing.

The moon is rising.

Oh yes! Oh no!

The rain is falling down!
