A note from the teachers...

Dear Parents,

Report cards have come home today. Please sign and return the report card envelope. You may keep the report card and any other important papers located in the envelope.

We have several fun activities coming up and need your help! Each class is in need of the following:

  • 3 bags of individually wrapped Starburst
  • 6 bags of individually wrapped Smarties
  • 12 bags of candy corn

If you are able to supply one of the above, please contact your child's teacher.

Last Friday a permission slip came home for our Capitol Field Trip. Please sign and return those soon. We have very limited space on this trip. Room Parents will have first choice for chaperones. If for some reason we need more, your child's teacher will be in contact. Our field trip is scheduled for February 22nd (Ross, Burkingstock, Fladger, and Coy) and February 23rd (Shields and Wilker).

What are we doing next week?

  • Reading – Next week our skill will focus on character traits.
  • Writing – Next week we will focus on the R.A.C.E.S. strategy.
  • Word Study/Spelling - Next week will be a Word Work (spelling) skill week. Students will receive their spelling list on Monday, and should complete the sort and review activities each night. Our focus this week will be more difficult Long and Short E spelling patterns. (ea) Our spelling assessment will be on Friday.
  • Grammar - Next week we will study quotations.
  • Math – We will begin multiplication properties next week. We will also begin taking multiplication timed tests. It is very important that students know there basic multiplication facts. Here are a few games they can play for review: Pac-Man Multiplication, Fruit Shoot Multiplication, and Multiplication Picnic.
  • Science - Students will continue our rocks and minerals unit. We will be learning about the three different types of rocks and how each rock type is formed. We will also learn about the rock cycle and how rocks are constantly changing from one form to another. You can use our Quizlet Rocks and Minerals link to study these vocabulary words. The vocabulary quiz will be Tuesday, The tentative date for the Rocks and Minerals test is Tuesday, October 27th.
